I think we may have more in common that you might think!

and I'm not allowed to use human shaped targets at the local county range...

I must, however, call bullshit on the above. It's an established fact that council tax in the UK consistently went up while services declined, the money being used to fund non-jobs and pay increases for council staff instead. Are you just making all of this up as you go along?
I might ask you the same question and where do you get your established facts ?
Could it be that anything that comes into your extreme right wing mind becomes an established fact ?

I know council staff in the UK and I know what their pay raises were - do you ? I worked for a government quango as a manager for 3 years and got out because of their pathetic raises

You need to get our more and spend less time with your cat

Did you vote for Thatcher or do you prefer your dark acidic anonymity ?

Plus the cops would search every "Muslim looking" person's bag and not do it randomly like they're suppose to.

So I think you're bag argument is totally wrong, even though I don't carry a tranny outfit and sex toys everywhere myself.
Do you mind your stuff being searched before you get on a plane ?

The reason it's less dangerous to get on the tube in London than walk down the street in america is because of deterence by searches

The less they catch, the better it's working

Actually, I sat as a Labour councillor, sat on the board of a quango and worked extensively with the public sector on behalf of industry. SWMBO was a social worker, over there.

So I think I have some idea what I'm talking about.

Well that's good and I applaud you for that

You know that local government quangos etc are inefficient - I cut my job down to 4 days a month and secretly taught myself programming the rest of the time - and they still thought I was good - but what we are talking about is laws to restrict some freedoms in order to facilitate other freedoms.
I would agree with you no doubt about councils etc running services - they can't and the private sector is much better at it
Having said that, I don't agee with private armies (contractors like blackwater) and I severely disapprove of the US health system even though I am sat pretty with a young wife with a good job which gives me top cover. You see I actually think about the rest and feel sorry for them

I had 2 years in a local authority in the mid 60's and it was the same deal then - low pay but safe pay, not much expected - it was the same when I did my 3 years in the 90's. People snoring in meetings - that was just the Directors

But anyway that's not the subject - we are talking freedom - and nobody can be free if they have been shot by some nut who should not have been allowed to possess a gun in the first place

So, uh, you support random searches. Would you be in favor of abrogating the 4th Amendment? You know, "for the common good".

If you're representative of the mindset of the people of the UK, I'll never live there again.

You're ass backwards on everything. Freedom is (and should be) the default condition.
Random searches? Doing things for the greater good?
I bet these are common mantras you have used:
a) if it saves just one life
b) think of the children
c) if you've done nothing wrong, you don't have to worry/have nothing to hide

I bet you support massive eavesdropping on the population? National DNA databases? ID cards.

I suspect you're a dangerous person, exvj. At least your thinking is dangerous. Insidious. Far more dangerous than any firearm.

Yes, when it's not necessary, especially when it's performed by some $8/hour prick on a power trip.

That's wrong; you're not safer on the tube because of bag searches. You're not going to suggest random searching on America's streets are you???

That's what you're talking about. I think you're proposing the restriction or loss of freedoms for no appreciable gain whatsoever.

So why your bizarre statement about wheely bins and lower taxes?

I will take the 5th on the 4th, but people who refuse to inoculate their kids and don't consider the health of the population are akin to the extremists in the gun lobby
While people get surly in the airport, I thank the searchers and tell em I appreciate the job they are doing

I appreciate em even more when I cross Greenland at 36 thousand feet

I resented it when my kid banged his head on my elbow and I ended up in hospital and they accused me of striking him on the top of the head with my elbow - but in retrospect, if their vigilance saves a kid who is being beaten, then I don't mind the inconvenience of being quizzed when I am innocent

The grumpy gun nuts would probably start using obscenities and start a fight in the emergency dept if they were so accused - happens every day

So you do think people should be stopped and searched randomly. You are the most dangerous person I have encountered on this forum ever. Either that, or the most successful troll.

Either way, you're going in my killfile.

Wheely bins are cheaper and allow us to be overcharged 150% instead of 200%

Here we are in the tender clutches of waste managment and the list of do's and don'ts is as long as..... well we won't go into that
and we pay a lot

My property tax and town tax and irrigation tax etc are much higher here than the UK and they wont even call to pick up an old settee free like they do in England and they make you clear the public footpath yourself and they dont clear the snow on the road for weeks. I reckon UK local authorities are rubbish, but fractionally less rubbish than the American version - ok the Washington version - I have no knowlege of Florida snow clearing

Gun nuts start fights in emergency rooms every day... right.

Since 1995 I've worked in a large urban hospital with a very busy emergency department. I've never heard of a "gun nut fight" in all that time.

Shame on me for responding to the troll again, but I couldn't help myself this time.

I notice that certain members have a stock of buzz words like 'troll' which they wheel out every now and then to try and clinch their weak arguments (or no arguments) by devaluing people's posts

It's a cheap shot

trolls plant a contentious issue and then scoot - I dont scoot - I stay and argue my case and I have enjoyed all the different arguments on both sides which I think have been real quality in many cases and on both sides

There is a thread on baking if you don't like, or can't do, vigorous debate and would enjoy that more...
