Each quarterback has his own bag of balls on his sideline, zealously guarded by a member of the team staff. They are doctored to his preference, although they are supposed to be inflated within specific parameters. In the same vein, each kicker has his own balls that are brought out to kick the extra points. The first inkling of Deflategate came when there was a game delay while Brady got the ball that he wanted onto the field -- the commentators at the time thought that there must have been a mixup and he'd been given the kicker's ball by mistake. Steelers owner Art Rooney has already suggested that it is time to go back to everyone having the same ball, no more balls doctored to the QB's specifications, which makes sense to me.

Here is an interesting article from the NYT about how Eli Manning's balls are prepared: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/24/sp...king.html?_r=0

Going by something said on TV Rodgers over inflating the balls is OK, because the rules only refer to under inflating.

But there's also a upper limit to the psi range.

There is but apparently it isn't against the rules to exceed it. Rodgers does it all the time. I only repeat what I heard on TV I am no expert on the NFL, and quite happy to concede the person saying might well have been talking out of his backside.

The article referenced by Nutmegger was very interesting and I imagine that most of us have learned something about the game we didn't know before.

So the Seahawks showed grit and determination and that they can never be counted out and New England blew away their fourth seed opposition.

Who do you think will win, or want to won?
It was pretty crazy!

Raining a lot in Phoenix this morning. Probably not what all the out of towners were hoping for. Well I guess the seahawks probably feel at home.

Wow. I can't believe I read that article. But thanks. Never knew so very much about the balls, nor what goes into the prep.

It appears that Brady favours slightly shrunken balls. But for this game they will be pumped up. So, advantage Seahawks.
