Salmond is heartily disliked by a heck of a lot of people in this country but if posts on here are to believed, he represents the Second Coming.
I don't really have a horse in this race (I'm still not sure which way I will vote) but I can't resist responding when I see tripe being posted about the underlying issues. Surely Scottish Newsnight and other local news programs are posted on YouTube? (I know First Ministers Questions is posted regularly on YouTube)
I have been watching this stuff and reading local newspapers and talking to local people (including many who are far more intelligent and informed than I am) and I just don't recognise the Scotland that is portrayed by some people on here.

Re: the Scottish independence issue
I am fascinated by how many expat Scots are gung ho for independence, far more (in my experience online) than among Scots who actually live in Scotland. Take Sean Connery, who loves Scotland so much he has lived 4,000 miles away for decades and doesn't contribute to the Scottish economy.

Re: the Scottish independence issue
But the simple fact is that support for independence in Scotland has been at 30%+/- for more than a decade. Even the Scotsman's headline last month that the " ' Yes' vote narrows gap", was an unwarrantedly gung-ho spin on the simple fact that "No" votes outnumber "Yes" votes by 3:2. The SNP would have to claim 75% of the "don't knows", and get them to the polls , to stand any chance of getting majority support for independence.
The Better Together campaigners seem to be sleepwalking to disaster and I think turnout will be higher among people who indicate "Yes" in these polls. There seems to be an air of complacency among the No voters such that more of them won't bother turning out to vote.
That's just my gut feeling. It's not a "fact".
