Is the correct answer
It is not just them, although it seems churchy jobs of other faiths do seem to fall for the rubbish more than most. Thoughts and prayers anyone. Some really rather unpleasant peculiar ideas have been bubbling out there , right there on a westernised home front. It's not good and like others I worry about those that really do believe in the utter crud being fed them.

Do NOT presume to speak for me. You may know of me but you do NOT know me politically. I am NOT registered to any political party and vote for a candidate based on many criteria. As for this particular US Presidential election, both candidates were shit. Biden was the lesser of two evils, IMHO.

BTW the US is a republic. Here is the difference: The major difference between a democracy and a republic is that a republic is a form of government whereas a democracy is an ideology that helps shape how a government is run. Put another way: a republic is the system of government that allows a country to be democratic!
I'm not either republican, conservative, liberal or democratic in terms of parties or ideals. I do not like socialism, nanny states, free handouts, illegal immigrant, open borders or politics in general. I do not believe that college loans should be forgiven, that dreamers should be made legal, or in amnesty for illegals. You have a problem with that, then it is your problem, not mine.

I wasn't presuming to speak for you at all Rete . Up to you, as I wrote, but no need to be so cross for what you personally believe in & see as OK. However your post suggested that Al Gore stated he began the internet. He did not. I had a problemo with that as it is a falsehood. The past 4 years has been full of that utter rot. It needs to stop.
As to the last part of the post. I think most folks have a problemo with exclusion , judgement and prejudice. I am not sure why you have mentioned socialism although I have read many seem to fear that American might become communist or a socialist state = Democrats. All nonsense.
I called you on the Al Gore comment which is a part of what many trump/republicans seem to wrongly believe. <removed by myself as R knows what I saw and read>
Anyway , peace out .
No biggie, but the Internet was a thing before Berners Lee, worked on the concept of the Web.

A lot of my fellow American's don't really know what socialism is, especially so when many call Canada socialist which is simply not true.
No probs at all my end. AFAIK the USA used to pride itself on being one of the oldest democracies . Everyone knows it's a republic.

I have to say that my Canadian husband claims that his country is leaning to far over to socialism for his liking. We get in arguments about this all the time. He still pays taxes in Canada but is not allowed to vote for those who tax his pension. Really pisses him off.

I think the basic architecture of the internet was an outgrowth of the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's ARPANET network in the late 60s. The TCP/IP protocols that underlie with internet were introduced in the early 80s on the basis of DARPA research.

The more recent Republican process is: Canada's/Europe's governments do stuff, those governments are more socialist than the USA, Democrats want to do that stuff, communist dictatorships are socialist, therefore the US government doing that stuff means it becomes Venezuela.

As far as provincial governments go.
7 provinces have a right leaning governments currently.
2 have Liberal center to center left government.
1 has a center left to left wing government.
BC is the only left leaning government really in provincial power, but even they are not socialist by any stretch.
Canada does permit voting from abroad assuming one meets the basic eligibility requirements. which actually seem pretty similiar to what the US requires to vote from abroad.
Heck even taxes for me isn't much more vs the US and actually for our income last year, we would have paid about $200 more in taxes in the US with federal and state combined vs provincial and federal in Canada, and I get healthcare included in my taxes.....
Sure sales tax is higher but most of our goods are non-taxable and we get a GST credit every 3 months deposited into our account to offset the higher sales tax due to being lower income.
