I dunno, not my first choice, but I did like our ride back from IAH to LAX. Shiny new 787. Shame we were in the centre section, a dark flight, and DD was hyperactive for 2h58 minutes of the 3h flight, then slept just as we could have done with her walking.
Annoyingly the Channel 9 that they (United pre-Continental) used to do is apparently almost non-existent now. Pilot says ni, channel 9 turns into some crappy Country music channel or something. From Vancouver to San Diego, have to connect in SFO or LAX, Its a mix of A320/737/regional jets as the options. I find SEA or PDX nicer places to connect, but then I only get 737's as my option. Alaska has always been good, so I just stick with them. |

Is that the one where you get to listen to the radio comms between the pilots and ATC? We had it on 1 or 2 flights last year, I think that was on United, but may have been EVA

If United flew the 787 on the routes I fly, I would consider them just for that, but they don't.

Re: Planespotting
I believe the US airlines only have the ATC comms on internal flights, although don't quote me on that. I flew from Vegas to Chicago on a particularly choppy flight. It was great listening to all the pilots checking in with 'chop' no matter flight level they were at. I had great delight in telling my ex who was a nervous flyer to buckle up as it was about to get bumpy. I told her I was listening to the ATC rt and she tuned in. Her face turned white LOL. 5 minutes later, we had about an hour of fairly bad turbulence.
By the way, talking of 787's, the first person to marshal an operational 787 in the UK was yours truly. Autographs are only 10 bucks :D (I also did the runway inspection prior to the first operational 380 into the UK. Make that autograph $20!!!). |

Yes, that's the one. I've been on maybe half a dozen United flights in my lifetime and only once had it switched on (ORD-SNA).
I think they only fly them internationally now. At that time it was doing a round robin routing rather than there and back between the same points. Maybe proving in service? I read somewhere UA is going to bring over some 777's to domestic, no idea what routes, probably trans con or to Hawaii. In other news American had some issues with their pilots ipads. Did any other then United offer it? I can't think of any that did.

Was parked up in Springfield, Illinois, yesterday. Decided to mess around with my Flight Radar 24 app, and "Con-Air" just happened to be passing overhead.

Germanwings co-pilot tried controlled descent previously: report | CTV News
"Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz repeatedly set the plane into a descent, then brought it back up again on a flight on the same A320 jet from Duesseldorf to Barcelona, the BEA investigation agency said in the report. The report said the pilot appeared to have left the cockpit during that flight as well." |
Re: Planespotting
I have an interview with the local jet center later this morning to try and get back into the game. They seemed pretty enthusiastic on the phone yesterday. Great timing as it appears our Texas move is almost certainly on the cards.

Houston still has a sizeable United operation. Granted unless hired in a HQ job, the pay will stink until you have good seniority. Good luck with the interview. |
