CBC in Canada here is reporting this morning:

India has been asked to assist and search near the Andaman Sea.

CNN is reporting Vietnam has scaled back on the search until Malaysia can provide more accurate information on where to look.

CNN also reporting a top Malaysian Air Force official as saying, the plane remained on radar for an hour after all communication was lost.

If someone told CNN that the aircraft had been hit by ET's spaceship, they'd report it!

Fortunately there appears to have been a plane spotter on an oil rig off the coast of Vietnam, ExKiwiLass just posted this: http://globalnews.ca/news/1202910/oi...o-down-report/

I saw speculation on pprune several days ago that, given prevailing winds, MH370 might have had enough fuel to reach Somalia.

I'm beginning to think it just might have vanished. Taken by Martians or something!

I wonder what was in the hold, potential for this to be cargo theft.

That's about as plausible as any other theory I've heard so far, unfortunately.

If they wanted to nick the cargo they would have flown it to Heathrow.

I think the theory it went down in the sea south of India is the most plausible. One of the pilots being the culprit seems more likely than a hijacker, but not sure I'd put a bet on it at Ladbrooks.

That suggests that they overpowered their colleague - which, while not impossible, seems a little far fetched. That said, that the aircraft had it's ACARS disabled certainly suggests familiarity with the B777.

Although the operations manual of a 777, which details how to disable both the ACARS and the Transponder, can be freely found online.

Wouldn't be the first time, hasn't it happened already a couple times in the past?

There was an incident where a FedEx employee that was deadheading attacked the pilots - they were both seriously injured and never flew again, even though they fought him off and landed safely.

I had thought Egypt Air, and Silk Air incidents had been determined to be pilot suicide, but I know there is controversy around both.
