The gravel on the side was loose (unlike the tightly packed gravel on the main trail), and I slipped; reached out; landed hand-first on a Saguaro Cactus. They pulled at least 50 'needles' out of my hand. I know bikers are supposed to yield to hikers, but they often assume you will get out of their way.

Don't blame mountain bikers for your clumsiness.

Seems they have learned from public bus drivers. Signal once and pull left.

Signal??? Really??? Just barge in, any lane, any speed and eff the rest of the world around them, I admit to being engulfed in road rage last night when I was completely cut off by a cab, I was so enraged I missed my bloody ramp!!

"Like"? I am not sure I agree with your assumption.

For a nuber of years I drove an old Sierra in London, not in bad nick, but clearly far from new, and I seemed to benefit from the "force field" surrounding minicabs, and got away with quite a lot when changing lanes. To this day if I need to change lanes in heavy and/or slow traffic, I try to find a newish Merc, BMW, Audi, or similar shiney new car to move over in front of as they tend to be more accommodating.

I will certainly accept some blame, but my fault was in trying to accommodate the biker when I should have simply told him to wait till we got to a more appropriate passing point. This happened on a narrow, steep section that is not wide enough for bikers and hikers at the same time. Bikers are supposed to yield to hikers and wait for safe passing areas. There was a nice wide section right below this area, but the guy was ringing his bell and saying 'biker coming through' several times, and I felt intimidated so I tried to get out of his way. Nowadays, I'm quite firm in telling them to wait.

Update - attached a couple of shots showing the trail in various places ... not really a place for mountain bikers at all, really ... I may go weeks without seeing one at all, but they are technically allowed.

Never signal, by signalling you're giving information to the enemy and watch them close that gap.

As taught in UAE: signalling's only for new drivers, once you've had your licence for 34 minutes you don't have to any more. And it makes you look like a pussy.

I heard that there's a special signals course all those NY cabbies from the mid east have to take before they get their cabby license.

Turn signal lever down, left turn. Turn signal lever up, right turn. Memorize it you guys. There'll be a test on Monday.

I'm sure this has been brought up many times. I hate having to call my cable company every 2 years to get them to charge me a resaonable rate for TV and internet. It's crazy that the bill can go up almost 50% by not calling to get a discount.

I fixed that problem permanently about four years ago. :)
