Parsnips are absolutely lovely, parboiled and then coated in butter and roasted. Yummy!

I often serve them to my guests and without fail they'll say "what are they - can I have some more"........

I've been making apple sauce for the last 30 years. I like to use a blend of granny smith and nice sweeter apply like Delicious (red or golden) or Macoun. Granny Smith are the ones that are used most often for baking pies, muffins, etc.

Not tasted them roasted but couldn't make a soup without me. My daughter had difficulty finding them in Naples, Florida when she lived there a few years ago. Not even available in Publix. I checked for myself when I had visited her time. When I found fly down for a visit I would bring a bag with me and put them in her freezer.

Do you find after they go home there are bits of parsnip stuck to the bottom of the table, in the fishbowl, under the rug, in the cat?
Perhaps they are being polite, after all, parsnips are utterly disgusting and should be made illegal by some court or something.....
Lets not forget too soon that they have brought about nothing but wars and strife throughout the ages, do you not recall the "Great Parsnip Massacre of Lyons" in 1346, or the Parsnippy Rebellion in India in 1810?
We should all decry these vile tuba for what they are; evil, malignant things with no place in a civilised society.

Thank you.

A bit early for the sauce, isn't it?

(Or have you moved to a different time-zone? )

Hoity toity, elitist

If I wasn't such a pleasant man, I would be tempted to ask, "What does that say of the standard of the other food served with them?", but I'm much too nice for that.

We get ours from a produce market, that's the only place we can find them, none of the big franchises carry them where I am.

So do we. The guy at the farmers' market usually has a small basket of them.

He always looks a little surprised when I ask for 3 or 4 pounds of parsnips - I guess that's somewhat unusual in these parts...

Our Publix has parsnips and they are labelled parsnips too. They taste just like the "real" thing.

Bubble 'n' squeak - its the only way to eat sprouts. With lots of ketchup or brown sauce.
