I think it's ****ing hilarious the way so many republicans/conservatives bang on about Obama (and Hillary Clinton) calling them "far left", "Marxist", "socialist" and so on. Anybody who uses these terms to describe any significant figure in today's US politics is just broadcasting a profound ignorance of political science.

A couple of years. I don't listen to talk radio any more.
I prefer XM radio, particularly the comedy channel. Franken's a congressman now, isn't he? |

Totally agree with this statement. In the UK, my policitical views would be considered slightly right of centre...over here I'm a full blown commie!
Most of the 2/3 of the republicans on the right do not want any government solutions and most of the remaining 1/3 of the democrates on the left want a welfare state. What I find is that democrates overall seem to accept and respect whoever gets elected president but that is not always the case for republicans. As an example, when Clinton was elected president, the right wing of the republican party was immediately on his case even though he was about as center of the road as a politician can get. Now Clinton had his faults and couldn't keep his pants zipped up but I don't understand why he would be so hated by the right wing. A conservative republican uncle of mine just hated Clinton and when I asked him why, he said he didn't know but he just didn't like the guy. |

Re: Palin the Saviour
Never mind hunting, I find it incomprehensible that most "Pro Lifers" find nothing inconsistent in their support for the death penalty for humans. They are the ones mostly in favour of sending our youngsters to war as well. I thought their bible said "Thou shalt not kill" full stop, I didn't see any loopholes or caveats when I read it.

I think they try to get round this by claiming that the original wording of the commandment was "thou shalt not murder", and that it has been frequently mistranslated

Then (in either case) their throat is cut, and then they bleed out which actually kills them. There are more (worse) things that happen, but I'm not even willing for him to tell me. Also, the animals do not enjoy their time in feedlots, etc. while waiting for slaughter. Yes, in hunting, a shot that doesn't kill outright can cause suffering to those unfortunate animal. But all the animals in the abbatoirs certainly suffer significant distress. It's not a pretty business. I admit to liking my meat, so I'll admit to being a bit of a hypocrite - I couldn't bear to hunt, and I certainly won't visit an abbatoir. But I do still refrain personally from criticising responsible hunters. |

You just sound like a nicer and nicer person with each post in this thread, Octang. Do you spit at your neighbors who have Obama signs up too, or do you like to keep it nice and safe online?
I don't spit period. Unless I'm running. Nice sideburns, btw. Going for the Ming the Merciless look? \ Looks out the window for hot hail. \\ You may now return to knocking Bible Spice. |
