"The center right try to demonize anyone who they don't agree with."
The left are trying to demonize Palin.
Who has the high ground? Neither Reps or Dems emerge from this situation with credit...

I don't think anyone listens to Air America and I doubt most Americans can even figure out how to receive it even if they wanted to. That may be the left fringe that nobody listens to but the fringe right has many who listen/watch them.

So you want the fairness doctrine back?
You want "Russ" muzzled? Oh dear. Doesn't bode well for free speech.
But that's the point with the left though, isn't it? Dissenting viewpoints are just not allowed.

I've listened in the past to the likes of "Russ", "Shan" et al. I don't agree with a lot of what they say but I love how they piss off the left - so they're doing something right.

"Demonize Palin" is a very strong term to use. Have I missed something that she's been accused of that would class a "demonizing"?

But in general I agree. Both sides of the political spectrum in this country suck - both the politicians and their supporters. The "politics of hate" is something I could definitely live without.

Do you really hate people with opinions different to your own as much as you sound like you do?

Whom from the left demonized her? They may have joked about some of the things she did and they may disagree with her beliefs but I don't remember anyone from the left being vicious to her. I don't remember anyone on the left repeatly saying such things as Barack Hussein Obama or trying to insinuate that Barack is a terriost to get away from the real issues in the country.

I agree with your agreement-reminds me of this-

Eugene Field. 1850–1895

231. The Duel

THE GINGHAM dog and the calico cat
Side by side on the table sat;
'T was half-past twelve, and (what do you think!)
Nor one nor t' other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate 5
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
(I was n't there; I simply state
What was told to me by the Chinese plate!)

The gingham dog went "bow-wow-wow!" 10
And the calico cat replied "mee-ow!"
The air was littered, an hour or so,
With bits of gingham and calico,
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney-place
Up with its hands before its face, 15
For it always dreaded a family row!
(Never mind: I 'm only telling you
What the old Dutch clock declares is true!)

The Chinese plate looked very blue,
And wailed, "Oh, dear! what shall we do!" 20
But the gingham dog and the calico cat
Wallowed this way and tumbled that,
Employing every tooth and claw
In the awfullest way you ever saw—
And, oh! how the gingham and calico flew! 25
(Don't fancy I exaggerate—
I got my news from the Chinese plate!)

Next morning where the two had sat
They found no trace of dog or cat;
And some folks think unto this day 30
That burglars stole that pair away!
But the truth about the cat and pup
Is this: they ate each other up!
Now what do you really think of that!
(The old Dutch clock it told me so, 35
And that is how I came to know.)

Actually I consider myself a fisical conservative and have voted for many republicans in the past. Although Nixon, Regan, and Bush Sr. had a base that was from the religious right, none of them really liked the religious right and remained independent.

On the other hand, Bush Jr. tied his wagon to the religious right and the neo-cons. I've always respected McCain but since he also recently seems to have tied his wagon to the religious right and neo-cons, I just can't take 4 more years like the last 8 years.

And animals in an abattoir get a bolt to the head in most cases and are out right dead. sadly this isn't the case with all shots taken by the hunter. I've seen plenty of examples of this.

But meh.

Ever seen a feedlot? I have much more respect for getting your meat by hunting.

My husband has spent time in abbatoirs, it was a required part of his training.

The captive bolt to the head does not kill them, it stuns them. Pigs are electrocuted, rather than have the bolt to the head. Then (in either case) their throat is cut, and then they bleed out which actually kills them. There are more (worse) things that happen, but I'm not even willing for him to tell me.

Also, the animals do not enjoy their time in feedlots, etc. while waiting for slaughter.

Yes, in hunting, a shot that doesn't kill outright can cause suffering to those unfortunate animal.

But all the animals in the abbatoirs certainly suffer significant distress. It's not a pretty business.

I admit to liking my meat, so I'll admit to being a bit of a hypocrite - I couldn't bear to hunt, and I certainly won't visit an abbatoir. But I do still refrain personally from criticising responsible hunters.

Michael, you've been afflicted by language devaluation too.

I think it's ****ing hilarious the way so many republicans/conservatives bang on about Obama (and Hillary Clinton) calling them "far left", "Marxist", "socialist" and so on. Anybody who uses these terms to describe any significant figure in today's US politics is just broadcasting a profound ignorance of political science.

How long since you listened? Al Franken has been gone for ages.

A couple of years. I don't listen to talk radio any more.
I prefer XM radio, particularly the comedy channel.

Franken's a congressman now, isn't he?
