The McCain camp is saying that ACORN committed voter fraud and that Obama was somehow affiliated with them. What really happened is that ACORN launched a voter registration drive (I believe the impetus was that they wanted to register voters from a certain demographic who would then in turn vote for their programs) and hired contractors to get people registered. The contractors (who were paid by quotas - more names = more money) were crooked and provided a bunch of bogus registrations - basically taking names from the phone book and forging registration forms. Effectively, ACORN was the victim in the lawsuit and Obama's law firm represented their action against the contracting firm. Key Points: 1. There was never any "voter fraud". These were bogus registrations - none of these bogus people ever voted at all. It was "registration fraud". 2. ACORN was the victim of this fraud and not the perpetrator - they had no use for bogus registrations - they wanted real ones. ACORN basically got ripped off by the contractors. 3. Obama's firm was representing ACORN - in their pursuit of legal recourse against the contracting firm - in tandem with the US Justice Dept (as is the case in any voter registration fraud case). |

A goldfish's lifetime ago, Sen. John McCain was happy to accept the honors and acclamation of the Service Employees International Union, People for the American Way, UNITE HERE -- and ACORN. Here he is, on Feb. 20, 2006, telling immigration rights activists at a rally in Miami that they "are what makes America special." ACORN co-sponsored the rally, and its volunteers surround McCain, and while there's no evidence that McCain ever formally teamed with the group, the video serves as a reminder that he did not mind being associated with them when the politics of the moment were different.

Did anyone watch the Obama/McCain debate on CNN tonight? When McCain was answering the question about whether he thought his VP choice was a good choice, the controlled group of undecided voters were indicating a very negative response causing their response to fall off the bottom of the graph on the screen
