I'd be happy for said redneck to have a gun if they were subject the same training and background checks as secret service agents are.
While I think quite highly of myself, I am willing to acknowledge that I have far fewer people who would like to assassinate me than does the US president. I'm also willing to concede that the murder of a US president has a far greater impact on the country and the western world than would mine So I can understand why the president has to take more precautions than I do. The gun-toting side of my ego may have problems accepting this, but I guess that my inner redneck will just have to get over it. |

His point is that if the Secret Service can be trusted with guns, then some half-literate redneck with a pickup truck, Jesus fetish and anger management issues is just as trustworthy.
(Yeah, I know, that doesn't really make any sense.) |
Re: Oregon incident.
Does the reality of Chris Harper Mercer (who had 13 guns) fit the template of a half-literate redneck with a pickup truck, Jesus fetish and anger management issues?

The template needs a little tweaking.
Not issues like, who the **** needs 13 guns? Or, had it been harder to get the guns in the first place, would he maybe not have killed anyone, or at least had the decency to just off himself to thin the herd a little for the rest of us? Or, is it now time to stop and think that maybe America isn't 'doing it right' when it comes to an armed population? You know when your kids can't play with their toys properly, they need to go on time out? Maybe it's time America took its Adderall and gave the guns back to the grown-ups?

I find it amusing that the pro-gun crowd responds by demanding that we expand the field of those who aren't qualified to own guns.

What intrigues me is how come none of the drive bys have tracked down the Mother. Seems she is a bit of a nut and explains about her son.

Re: Oregon incident.
The mother of the Oregon mass murderer stockpiled firearms because she feared stricter gun laws — and shopped around for a shooting range that would let her and her son fire away without supervision, the Daily News has learned. Laurel Harper, a nurse who shared an apartment with her son Chris Harper Mercer, spoke openly about her love of guns, said the mother of one of her patients. "She said she had multiple guns and believed wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment and wanted to get all the guns she could before someone outlawed them," Shelly Steele, who hired Harper to provide care for her sickly teenage son, told The News in an exclusive interview Saturday. Sounds like a typical Fox News viewer. |

Trying to buy guns out of reasons of fear should be an instant ban on mental health grounds.
****ing tin-foil hat nutjobs. |

Re: Oregon incident.
Why do so many people buy so many guns? Are they expecting some kind of protracted shootout, where multiples guns are needed in case of jams? How many spares are needed? Collectors and shooting enthusiasts are one thing, but to protect your family/home it is absurd to have so many.
