For me it would depend on the circumstances - I don't believe in blind loyalty to a country (or anything else, for that matter) so the issue for me would not be determined by my citizenship or current residence but by which side I thought was "right" - although in the case of a war, the answer to that might quite possibly be "neither" ...

Well, I haven't read all 6 pages yet, but I haven't seen anyone ask "why are they fighting?"

Wouldn't it influence your answer to find out that the UK invaded France and the US sided with the French, or that the US invaded Canada and the UK sided with the Canadians? Who started it, why, etc - those should be the factors affecting your 'side', not where you were born or where your mom lives ...

As a 50+ year old male (as in, not likely to be called up for active duty ), I'd pretty much follow the war like I would any other war - catch up on it on CNN for a few minutes, then find something more entertaining ... and worry about how much money was being wasted and how stupid the guys in charge are ...

OK, I should have read all 6 pages

I was embarrassed to be in the UK and a UK citizen when they fought the Argentinians, and I was embarrassed to be in the US when they invaded Grenada, and more recently Iraq, and utterly ashamed at what they did in Nicaragua ('arms for hostages', the whole "Ollie North" thing). I was proud to be in the US when they invaded Afghanistan after 9/11, and pretty impressed by the Panama operation (Noriega).

The point is taken, the elk is dead, the beast stops at Swindon, Chabrol stops at nothing, I'm having treatment and La Fontaine can get knotted.

For me, when my Son asked me the question, it reminded me of when I was working as a nanny for the US military couple (b4 hubby)

They asked me to sign some paperwork that essentially stated, that if war broke out and Germany wasn't an ally, then I agreed to be evacuated with the children to the US and deliver them to their Grandparents in N.Cali. At the time, I willingly (innocently) signed it and didn't really give it much thought

Obviously my life is very different now, being married to a man that just got out of uniform and a Mum to one that is now wearing one. My loyalties are to my family first, I know where their loyalties lie, i'm just not that sure it is so 'cut and dried' for me

It has been interesting reading the responses though.

Why were you embarrassed by the Falklands conflict?
Are you saying it was okay for the junta to take over the island by force?
