Loyalty....where is yours?

Re: Loyalty....where is yours?
Hey - can someone invite Patrick Hasler (sp?) to this thread? I'm sure he'd have some interesting comments on the topic, since he can't even bring himself to watch American football for fear of being seen as unpatriotic!

The British seized the islands by force themselves several times in history, so you can't really use the argument of force either way. EG, in 1833 ..."The Argentinian assertions of sovereignty provided the spur for Britain to send a naval task force in order to finally and permanently return to the islands."
Fundamentally, the British 'ownership' of the Falklands / Malvinas is a leftover of colonial times and does not make a whole lot of sense in current times. I feel the same way about Guantanamo, Gibralter, etc.
I was far, far more interested in history back then, and was quite passionate about the subject. These days, I really don't give a toss who owns the stupid little islands but fundamentally they should not be owned by the UK. So if another fight broke out today I'd still hope the Argentinians prevailed.

I was going to ask you about Gibraltar (my sister was born there) but you said you feel the same.
From a self-interest and strategic stand-point, it's good to have these assets. Look how pivotal Gibraltar was in WWII. It's a way to project your sphere of influence further.
As for the Falklands/Malvinas today, there's that spat going on over drilling. There's a lot of oil there. A lot of money at stake. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
PS. You're a traitor!
PPS. For me, the Falklands conflict will forever be linked with Adrian Mole and his crumb.

The Argentinian claim to the Falklands is definitely a leftover of colonial times. More so than the British claim..

Gibraltar was actually a useful asset during the Falkands War. If we were extra heavy flying out of the UK we stopped off at Gib to pick up fuel before flying further south. Having flown around the Spanish coast because they would not allow us to use their airspace.

Of course, taking over the UK and subjugating the people would be pretty easy.
The populace has become so enfeebled, emasculated, infantilized and dependent, we could probably take over the whole country with a couple of hundred hunters.
All we'd have to do is show them a picture of a gun or a knife and they'd wet themselves in a government-engendered Pavlovian response, collapsing into paroxysms of terror.

Better nations than America have tried.
Look at your military track record. Not very impressive. If you persist in making daft statements people might be tempted to have a go. No, surely even yanks couldn`t be fooled again. You should have told Bush The Younger that Rambo was fiction. Weapons of mass destruction.....another piece of yanky shit. Stick to Hollywood, more predictable results.

I suspect Octang's original post was more of a reference to the fact that the local populace in UK is unarmed, and he thinks that is the secret weapon to stopping an overthrow ...
Maybe if Sarah Palin gets in she'll declare war on Britain because 'they don't go to church' or something ...
