I've never heard of brake pads lasting that long!

I just have to look after it a bit better than the old one
Since maintenance is covered I'm betting you will

Shitty shit pants, I never even thought of that. Still, I doubt anyone at State Farm even knows what Rallye Sport even means

Doesn't matter what it stands for, it's an options package so it adds value. Hopefully it doesn't go up too much.

Hopefully not. You never know... It might even come down. Newer = Safer etc.

That's true. We expect a slight rate increase to cover the increased replacement value. Hopefully the safety is factored in, plus the fact that we've never made an insurance claim, ever.

Probably how you drive, especially if you drive a automatic. When I see a red light ahead, either brake or traffic, I take my foot off the gas, often I never touch the brake even as I downshift. Most of my driving is on the interstate, about 75%-80%, and I might drive 30 or more miles and never use the brakes. I have perfected, more or less, the art of leaving the interstate on the exits I use most often, with minimal (less than 20mph down to a Stop sign), or no use of the brakes at all - many of the interstate off ramps I use most often either end at a Yield sign, or flow freely onto another road without even a Yield sign. ...... And before anyone says anything about my downshifting and wearing the clutch, I have never had to replace a clutch in any of the six vehicles I have owned and the 475,000 miles they have covered during the time I have owned them.

Aside from minimal use of the brakes it's not that I'm not trying, I spend most of my time 10-15mph over the posted limit, and can take pretty much any turn, bend or on/off ramp at 15mph over the recommended limit (40mph on a 25mph cloverleaf ramp, 50mph on a twisty 35mph back road) and those are speeds I achieve even in my truck.

That's remarkable. I'm trying to remember if I had to do brakes on my last daily driver manual, the amazingly sporty 1996 Geo Metro. I do remember that when I changed the tranny at 110k (I taught about 30 people how to drive a stick in that thing, I'm surprised it lasted that long ) the clutch was in such good condition I reused it even though I do drive downshifting as well. (Usually would've changed it anyway but money was tight.)

Did that actually go fast enough to need brakes?

BMV Vixen campervan.

Saw that on our hols...I never even realised BMW made things like that...

It looked like a bit of plumbing pipe on wheels when I saw it drive around the green.

They didn't, the Vixen Motor company made it (and only 586 others) buying an engine from BMW to power it, and gearboxes from Renault or GM. They were all made between 1986 and 1989.

The RV is at least distinctive.

LOL! As I told the parts guys 'it's got the BIG engine', the I4 1.3 liter. 87 HP iirc? [EDIT: 70!]

Funny I hated it every time I drove it, but you could push the envelope daily, because the envelope was so small! I'd say I flogged it 100% of the time and it still ran well for 9 years and averaged a whisker shy of 40 mpg combined my driving. That little Suzuki engine was a marvel even if the total package wasn't. Not even close.

One time I went camping with friends, 3 adults 2 larger children a 50 lb dog and camping gear in it! 3 hour drive in a little sedan. Togetherness.

Pete

New tyres for me on Saturday. Still running on Snows right now, so can't wait for some decent handling.

Was it actually three hours, or did it just feel like three hours?

Are you actually switching the tyres, or are you getting new wheels and tyres, and keeping the wheels and tyres for next winter?

Switching tyres this time around, to get summer tyres onto my JCW rims, then next winter will have the Snows dropped onto a cheap(er) set of rims for winter use.
