Exactly this.

I have never been into a fish shop in my ten+ years in Gloucester nor fifteen years in London and found haddock already cooked. I always ask for it, and am more than happy to wait, because further to Nutek's comment, the added benefit is that it is always freshly cooked. :)

Watford?

As an aside, I just wanted to say the word "savaloy".

Is it South Yorkshire? Since any farther south and you're in the Midlands?

As soon as you go under the sign that says "Hatfield and The North" you are in the north.

That's because 'the country for which god would claim for himself, if ever there were such a thing', isn't snappy enough to put on road signs.

This is a common misconception.

The North starts at Watford Gap, in Northamptonshire.

I'm from Surrey, so as far as we're concerned the North starts at the Thames.

Wouldn't that mark the southern end of the Midlands, though?

It would, but makes more sense than 'north of Watford'.

Oh, yeah - well in that context 'North of the Watford Gap' does make sense.
