A lot of the "laws" are simply regulations around product specs so that they are standardized and therefore suitable for trading in the common bloc, rather than having to manufacture the same product to the different specs of different countries. It is - oh, sorry, was - a cost-savings efficiency rather than an act of tyranny.

Of course if we want to continue trading with the EU bloc we will have to meet those specs anyway.
