Re: 2020 Election
A black man couldn't possibly be a team owner, could he? Me thinks that with this new video, this cop is going to be in legal jeopardy given his possibly fraudulent disability claim. If this kind of casual racism does not get the voters off their chairs what will?

Even more incredible is that his department backed him up all the way, even having seen all the video evidence that shows that he was the only aggressor. Only the public release of the video has made them do a 180.

You’ve got to wonder why such a high proportion of police officers are violent, dishonest scumbags. And they are highly sought after for security guard and other similar gigs! There is something fundamentally very sick in this country.

Are we talking about a high proportion just in the USA? Define high proportion? I tend to think you might be surprised that it is not a very high proportion even if just referring to US officers. Certainly all forces can have violent, dishonest scumbags but all having high proportions???????

Edit: the data is nearly 30 years old, no recent data to say if it's gone up or down |
Re: 2020 Election
It's 45 minutes but its a good watch for anyone who has never seen it. Bottom line, don't speak to the police.

Re: 2020 Election
It's not just about the percentage that are "bad apples" though. For example, it's also about ingrained police policies that escalate rather than deescalate. You can see that in this example. All that officer masquerading as a security guard needed to do was say something like "Sir, I need to see your pass before I can let you on court". Instead, even though Ujiri was clearly getting his pass out (it's visible on the video), the guard immediately goes for the "back the f**k off" vocal shit, and violently shoves him away. And that's the same kind of scenario we've seen in so many of these tragic incidents. Something is systemically wrong with US policing.

That's pretty obvious, but we have to remember the case in question didn't involve a police officer. Bigshot self-important security guards don't get the same training, testing, or screening (or the same pay) as police recruits. Mr Pushy might get slapped with a counter-suit and lose everything he owns, and he won't have a police union/benevolent association to bear the legal costs. If he has anything worth taking I'd sue the ass off him.

Re: 2020 Election
Looks like I was wrong about the 180 - the sheriff department is still pursuing the assault case against the victim. Are they hoping for a blind jury or somehow blocking the footage that shows it was entirely one-sided? I hope he sues the whole department personally, so no public money is used and these corrupt police actually get some consequences for their actions.
