British Expats - 2020 Election

You know what? I enjoyed reading the thread and appreciate all the thought put into some of these posts, but me personally? I can't be interested. If it's a fair election, Trump loses in a landslide. Knowing that to be an absolute certainty, i'm reserving my mind for more constructive tasks..

Ok maybe not but a serious answer from a non american. My guess would be the third in chain of command and that would the national security adviser or secretary of defense/state or one of the generals? Or would it be the speaker of the house?

And fwiw it is interesting that Trump is going on about elections being rigged when here in the UK we vote in PENCIL and have done for as long as I can remember and there has never been any suggestion ballot papers have been altered in the few minutes after the polling station closes but before the ballot box is taken to the counting place. Though with a rubber and pencil a good handful could be and perhaps no one would any the wiser. And the american voting appears to be a bit more secure than ours?

Nope.

It there are no Federal elections, there will be no Speaker, since no members of the House will have been elected either. The House of Representatives will literally be vacant after January 3rd.

So it would be the Senate Pro Temp. Which interestingly, would have switched to Democratic control with no elections as the 65 remaining Senators (again, no elections) would be 35 Dem, 30 Republican. The largest party in the Senate elects the Pro Temp, who is usually the longest serving Senator of that party.

If that were to hold, it would be 80 year old Pat Leahy.

Highly unlikely of course, but an interesting thought exercise.

I just love some of these election ads. Sometimes it difficult to tell the real ones from the fake ones.
