excuse my ignorance but aren't gas prices in canada more in line with uk prices vs u.s. ones? from that point of view, imposing arbitrary taxes on remote economies like you have in parts of canada could be damaging for obvious reasons. obviously, don't matter to city folk in toronto and the other main cities but i'd be fuming if i ran a small business out in the sticks there where a car is the only mode of transport available and suddenly had to pay more for gas and other fuel because of this tax (assuming that's how this tax is going to be passed on to the consumer)
