what exactly is the 'current situation in the (US) economy', compared to every other country in the world? IIRC, in 2008 we had a massive recession/depression, and the US has recovered better than most countries. I agree things are not perfect but I'm not thinking we are in crisis mode.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. She maybe guilty of somethings but I don't believe serious ill health is one of them. My gawd she's almost 70 and has been on the road campaigning to be OPUS for the last 12 months...how many people her age could do that? I've just been walking in almost 40c temps for the last couple of hours and I'm knackered!

Not sure if he's suggesting slotting Clinton or her Supreme Court nominee, but either way it's probably not a good thing.

Still, he's done well, it's been a couple of days since he said something which would end any other candidate's campaign.

I am not partisan or Clinton at all, and actually like a few things Trump says, but I had a family member who ended up with dementia and one of first signs was lack of comprehension. Forget whether you like or not his views, or take seriously al his comments, some of his responses do make me wonder whether he has some sort of medical condition.

My fil is also showing some signs. It is very distressing for all concerned and emotionally draining trying to deal with him. Forgetful, quick to anger, irritable, the drinking doesn't help obviously...

Maybe the West Coast different, but in the Midwest things are declining rapidly. Over 40 million people nationwide on food stamps, in Midwest many towns have a third on food stamps, spreading heroin epidemic, declining real wages with most new jobs around here through temp agencies paying $10 an hour or less. The quoted unemployment rate a joke, people whose unemployment benefits exhausted not included, and many of jobs created are jobs that pay very little and qualify person for food stamps. Some towns I drive through sometimes have half of all storefronts closed, houses falling apart.

Guess debatable what is a "crisis" mode, but if someone does get a job full-time and still needs food stamps I believe that is a trend going forward that points towards progress.

How much of that is local politics though? The midwest is full of examples of State Governors really doubling down on the trickle down economics and failing hard. Kansas, Wisconsin etc..

Local politics very little to do with the larger economic trends that have been underway. High corporate tax rates, burdensome regulations, poor trade deals, out of control health care costs, and bizarre priorities ( from both parties) are some of the causes.

It's true that the US has one of the highest marginal corporate tax rates in the world. But its corporate tax rate as a percentage of corporate profits is lower than many countries. That's because lobbying $$$ have created an uneven playing field where certain companies have been able to make out like bandits whereas others haven't. That's a huge problem, imo, and also a contributor to some of the bizarre priorities we see as well.
