It's hard to know how much of it is an act. To be a celebrity right-winger, it's better to be hyperbolic than reasonable. The kneejerk types are suckers for anger and cheap rhetoric.

Politics is Hollywood for ugly people. He's not crazy. Well, actually he is crazy, but he's not any crazier than he's ever been. He wants to be in the spotlight and his TV gig has pretty much run it's course. This is the best (only) way for him to get media attention now.

It's not the only way. Someone could shoot him.

Not that I'm advocating that, of course, just putting it out there ...

He could be going for a bury bad news tactic. Spouts off about McCain, says he wants universal healthcare coverage. What gets all the press?

Next, he'll ask to see Marco Rubio's birth certificate and promise to raise taxes...

Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich has now joined the ever increasing line-up.

Also, I recently realised that Carly Fiorina's name sounds like a drunk person saying California.

Maybe not:

"But the survey was conducted from Thursday to Sunday, and the Post said most of the participants were interviewed before Trump lambasted McCain on Saturday.

Trump's popularity among those questioned dropped significantly after that latest outburst, the Post said."

I guess you can call Mexicans rapists and gain popularity, but criticizing McCain's war service is beyond the pale.

The Tea Party types think that McCain is a RINO, so they'll like Trump's attacks because they are already inclined to think that McCain is a fake and that Mr. Combover is "telling it like it is."

And McCain's past support for immigration reform plays into that narrative.

The interesting thing to consider from McCain's perspective is that he is possibly facing a strong primary challenge for his senate seat this time round. I am guessing he is currently making bank in response to Trump's attack and will have a lot more funds and sympathy than he was expecting at this stage.

Indeed, manna from heaven.
