ISIS are really more of an international threat at this time than they were in, say 1937.

Really all I'm getting at is that the whole ISIS/the wider Islamic world equivalency is disingenuous and shouldn't be encouraged or perpetuated but I think you probably agree on that one anyway.
Right, ISIS shouldn't be equated to the wider muslim population in the same sense that Nazis don't represent the entirety of the german population.

There were of course good Germans.

That was my main aim. Utterly poorly implemented, of course, but you get the gist ...

ISIS is a byproduct of the power vacuum that was inadvertently created by the US in Iraq, so it's a bit late for that now.

It would help if the Europeans didn't do such a fine job of alienating their immigrant populations, but that would take ages to fix even if they wanted to.

Yeah, anyone got a time machine.

It is an archetypal "well, I wouldn't start from here" situation.

As simple a statement as this is, it speaks volumes. I wonder why we don't hear it more.

Whilst I agree with you...maybe it's because the WWII was over 70 years ago. ISIS is a current threat to the world.

The part about Nazi Germany doesn't have to be included, it only came up because Boiler and I got sidetracked. I mentioned the war - think I got away with it.

But the point is the same. ISIS can and should be dealt with without any kind of backlash to the wider Muslim population, since ISIS is essentially against them as well.

I have probably simplified and hyperbolized (which is now a word) the matter but here goes.

The people who are capturing and beheading people 'in the name of Allah' to further whatever cause they think they have should be dealt with clinically and definitively. Surgical strikes, in-out, done.

The Muslim guy who runs the chemist down the road who has nothing to do with any of this can be left alone.

Surgical Strikes?

In the real world no such thing.

I know there has to be an acceptable margin of error, I'm not naive. By 'surgical' I mean 'with as little collateral damage as possible'. At least with targeted air strikes, rather than a ground troops operation, we can try to maximize accuracy and effect.

I think everybody knows exactly what will be involved in order to correctly take on ISIS - it won't be tea parties and bake sales.
