A silver lining then. As reported by the BBC
"congressman Peter King joked he would leave politics if Mr Trump became the nominee."

Post Super Tuesday…..some random reflections:
It’s been 8 months since June and Trump’s grandiose jaw-dropper - with his calculated, slo-mo, escalator descent through the marble and gold vulgarity of his eponymous Tower - as curtain-raiser to proclamation of his Presidential candidacy.
Since then (and in inverse proportion to his rise in the polls) that June descent has continued unabated…..ever downward…into the mud.
And this week (thanks, Marco Rubio) into the toilet.
Where will the downward spiral of his campaign war-path plunge us next?
Sewers await.
So does Hell.
Meanwhile, the marble and the gold trappings of long-ago June have metamorphosed into a fetid and ever denser inversion layer of bigotry and hatred:
Trump has sprung the lid of Pandora’s Box and let loose a host of furies and demons contained within.
He’s awakened sleeping dogs of prejudice, setting them a-howl.
Untethered and unmuzzled, in the thrall of their deliverer, Donald J. Trump - this rabid pack of discontent is united in a common vision of Trumpian deliverance.
With 8 months behind us, our long national nightmare hasn’t even reached its half way mark yet. Nine long months still loom ahead before the November election, at which time ……
The only thing to be feared as much as a Trump win - is a Trump loss!
Hell hate no fury like a Donald scorned.
If defeated, Donald J. Trump will never “go gentle into that good nightâ€â€¦.
His solipsism wouldn't allow for the humility needed for graceful resignation to his loss.
He’s temperamentally bereft of those personality elements which could allow him to endure, what for him would be, existential, public humiliation.
Were he not to win in November (and I can't even allow myself to think that he might), rather than “be a loser†- and worse yet, a loser on the world-stage, I foresee a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners, scorched-earth denouement.
I can imagine him digging in, refusing to concede and continuing on his warpath to winnerdom:
Fortified by humiliation and fury, buttressed by the massive army of supporters in his thrall, …..if Donald J. Trump goes down - he takes all of us with him.
Screw the United States.
Secession, to the rescue! …….
ok....I realize these musings are alarmist, preposterous and downright loony.
But 8 months ago - so, too, was the prospect of what's now come to pass.
Therefore, if past is prologue.........

Times when fascism have risen are when populations view an existential threat to their way of life, people respond to the left and to the right. Boiler pointed to a link a week or so ago that indicated some of Sanders supporters are political naives, likely to be racist, they are the ones jumping to the left, Trump is getting those that jump to the right.
I do think many people in America see immigration as an existential threat to their way of life. (As ridiculous as that may seem to many of us) Obama is a seen as symbolic of it. Economically America is not in a bad position, but you wouldnt know it, by the gloom.
Business is wary of opportunist populists, but when it is a choice between those on the left or those on the right, history tells us that when push comes to shove, they choose the right. The Republican core is against Trump now, but I worry as that battle plays out to defeat for them. Christie will probably be just the first of many defectors as the weeks go by

CNN just showed a chart with the enthusiasm levels, Hillary may be winning the Dem vote but with half the level of the GOP.
Bernie's best chance must be if Hillary's past catches up with her, now what the chance of that happening before November is I do not know.

Not just blatant bias in favour of the Dems but pretty clueless reporting. How they justify sending reporters out here to cover something most Brits don't care about I'll never know, it's not as if it's even the election yet

Watching the BBC for American political coverage when there's CNN/ABC, etc.

Lots of US politicians on both sides supported the IRA and still do. The situation back in the day was massively misunderstood in America, largely because of America's own history with UK colonialism

I think both you and the media are giving Trump much too much credit for the kkk thing. I'd be inclined to believe it hit him by complete surprise, and he bumbled it. I seriously doubt he has any connection to the kkk nor harbours any secret "white supremacy" associations at all. Or cares...
Not that I'm a trump supporter, but both parties have every motivation to sensationalise this to the max. And they are.. For lack of any other killer dirt. The Republicans in particular, are flipping out.

Is that more of an issue because of a) she's a Clinton and b) she's a female? I can't imagine any of the other wannabes are squeaky clean and honest. Granted I'm not living in the country and don't understand the whole brouhaha but from what I can see she is the only person who seems to know what she's doing and how to do the job. Everyone else seems to be a psycho or fundie with no real clue as to the bigger (final) picture.
