You're dealing with intangibles as it is.

You have been privileged enough to be well traveled. Travel is supposed to broaden the mind, is it not? Seems to have been wasted on you, such a shame.

Bollocks. If you want to go with the facts, the US barely registers on things like quality of life, HDI, life expectancy. Way down the list in science and technology when they were once world leaders in that field. Certainly, America was once great, was once right up there. Now? Not so much. I say that as someone who does like the place and who wants it to regain a semblance of greatness, it's constructive criticism rather than a put down, but for christ's sake, flag down a black cab and head for Real Street.

What is America #1 at? To quote the great speech from Newsroom: "Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending where spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies"

Yeah, OK.

Hmm. I'll likely not go back because I like it here, I'm settled here and a return to the UK is financial suicide at this time. That doesn't mean it's the greatest anything, it's just the best fit for me right now. The UK isn't the greatest either. There is a whole world beyond that which any of us knows, unless someone is so lucky as to have traveled to every country (or to the 100 odd someone like Josh Gates, the lucky bastard, has been to).

Bollocks, bollocks and more bollocks.

In previous years this would have him branded as a "flip flopper" and his poll numbers would take a huge (sorry yuuuge!) hit.

Which is the "greatest" country in the world?

Not Canada, Australia or New Zealand certainly. They have their own problems

Russia or China having populations either the same size or larger than the US? Not a chance

Where else? Europe ? Not these days with millions of refugees flooding across it's borders

Africa anywhere? Mostly a collection of basket case states economically and or politically

The middle east anywhere? India has an extremely large imbalance between rich and poor

South America? Brazil once showed signs of becoming a major player but the percentage of poor is still very significant

Not much left of the world is there ?

Those accusations usually do tremendous damage to regular politicians, but The Donald seems impervious. In fact last night, when the flip-flop accusation came up he barely seemed to ruffle a feather.

I think a better set of opponents would have capitalized on that better.

The problem is with the question, especially when its a rhetorical question. Its a bit of a silly question.

The Nordic countries are commonly viewed as the best, at least for happiness, health and general well being

I've been to Sweden and Denmark, pleasant enough countries but generally boring outside the few cities they have and it's very expensive. The people are uptight and joyless. Not much of a climate beyond cold and dampness a la the UK. Sweden in particular have some very bizarre laws, especially on alcohol consumption. I can't be bothered to google their economic output but I'm pretty sure it lags well behind the leading European countries, let alone America's

It is a silly question and that's why I asked it. You can travel to any spot anywhere in the world, think it's the garden of Eden for awhile then sooner or later you see the down sides.

All in all despite the silliness over politics and religion the US is still the best bet far as I'm concerned
