2016 Election

Re: 2016 Election
It seems Trump may have massively lied about losing hundreds of friends on 9/11 and on donating large quantities of money to help the victims and survivors. The worst lie possible.

Some factors favor the Dems, others favor the GOP. I wouldn't be resting easy if I was in the Democratic leadership. I'm inclined to think that the Dems (Clinton) will prevail, but it's not a sure thing and there are factors against them.
Just as a matter of history, the GOP really should be the favorite simply because the electorate tends to switch parties following a second-term candidacy (although the electoral map poses real challenges.) But the Republicans have become a fragmented party with its populist wing out of control, and I'm willing to bet that we're going to end up with a brokered convention that is engineered to keep Trump and Cruz out, which will upset their fans. The establishment doesn't like those fans very much, but it needs them if it is to have even the slightest chance of winning. It would be nice to win over swing voters but it may have to take what it can get from the base.

A brokered convention may happen, but if the results go the way of what the polls show, then it would be pretty difficult fnior Trump not to be the winner. Unless all the establishment rally behind a single candidate. Would be pretty interesting to see that play out. It may be what happens though as having Trump as the nominee would probably mean losses further down the ticket, losing the Senate and taking a big hit in the House.

Cruz has shot back at Donald's threats of a lawsuit - by threatening to depose Donald in court himself.

Just to get back to Scalia for a second. I just want to say how much I love Glenn Beck for this. It's a masterpiece...

Yes they should, given the one overriding factor: the economy (stupid) is still pretty meh.

It won't though, as Jeb!!!!! isn't going anywhere soon as he still has plenty of cash left and will not be allowed back in the house until he's President. Plus Kasich just came second in NH and is starting to get some support in SC, so he'll be sticking around a while as well.

This so-called "2016 Election" thread has become positively boring, with posters banging on endlessly about how terrible and how unelectable and how intellectually dishonest, etc, etc. the Republican candidates are and breathless posts on 'here's the latest proof.' Probably 99.8% of the posts are as I described. It case you all haven't noticed, Boiler and I are about the only non-liberals still bothering to check in, and it's likely he'll be the last one standing in the thread very shortly.
There is close to ZERO analysis as to why Hillary's campaign is imploding and what that portends. The latest Quinnipiac Poll shows her in a nation-wide statistical dead heat with a 74 year-old self-proclaimed socialist (44 - 42%). She's losing millennials and young women. Why? Even Move-on.org isn't firmly in her camp. She and Trump have the highest negatives of everyone out there. If she gets the nomination and the Republicans nominate either of the Hermanos Cubanas or another non-Trump, what happens then?
Could we please have some real thinking about the strengths and weaknesses of candidates on both side? Or is this just the Ex-Pat subsidiary of Daily Kos?

Are Iowa and NH just outliers?

If you want to talk about the GOP, there really isn't much more to say other than how they're imploding. Robert Reich sums up the current state here, and it's not pretty.

I wouldn't want to speak for Boiler but I wasn't under the impression he was a "non-liberal". Anti Hillary for sure but...

I always had him down as a sort of independent libertarian. One doesn't have to be non-liberal to be anti-Hillary anyway. Hillary herself is barely centre-left these days, let alone liberal.
