Right, asylum seekers, not refugees, which as the article points out is a significant difference. Of course, that's not stopping the "normal suspects" conflating the two.

Plenty of coverage in the UK, mainly in newspapers at the moment as tv news is focused on Paris.

What is scary to me is some of the comments I've seen when people point out the parallels between registering Muslims and making them wear some kind of identification mark, and the treatment of Jews in 1930s Germany. You get commentators saying "yeah, well the difference is that Hitler wanted to kill the Jews, whereas muslims [not even 'a minority'] want to kill us." So the PR campaign of turning 'us' against 'them' is already running, just like Hitler saying the Jews were the enemy within responsible for all the bad things going on, for the financial crisis, they were taking jobs, coming to rape your women etc etc.

I should probably stop reading comments on news sites, because the impression I get is that if we do get President Trump, it wouldn't be long before the USA had it's own Kristallnacht.

Why are right wingers so scared of everything? It's not like a few hungry, emaciated and desperate refugees are going to cause any problems whatsoever. But then, this is the group of pussies that have to arm themselves to the teeth because their shadows looked at them funny, so why am I surprised?

'Home grown' terrorists usually end up being second generation kids, radicalized by brainwashing and propaganda. Going after the refugees is pointless and disingenuous. Cutting off the head of the snake is what will work, not further victimizing the people it attacks more than us. Quite frankly, we should just let the Russians continue to deal with ISIS, and work out the issue of their support of Assad once the dust settles.

Fair play. Maybe we should stop asylum seekers because one of them might turn out to be a terrorist.

We definitely should also stop student visas and the visa waiver program because that's how the 9-11 hijackers got in.

And, we should abso****inglutely stop American citizens from having male children because that's how Timothy McVeigh and the Aurora movie theatre shooter got in the country.

PS - Dear America, stop shitting your pants.
PPS - Dear Donald Trump, stop using the Paris attacks to push your bigoted, hateful, racist agenda. You know you always felt this way, stop pretending this is something new. You suck.

Land of the freaked-out, home of the braying.

I hope that the next Trump rally has enough adult diapers to go around. At least Jeb Bush and a few right-wing commentators such as Fox's Shepard Smith and Ron Fournier have figured out that this sort of thing crosses the line.

Tourism and terrorism do sound very similar, when you think about it ...

France is still accepting refugees, even after the attack. The US has absolutely no excuse. We are a country built on and by immigration and they are a part of that package, like it or not.

Recent events really are weeding out the cnuts, though.

Quite.

The brave men who fought and died in the last war the US actually won will be turning in their graves/dying of embarrassment right now.

And given that it takes well over a year to get refugee status and the applicants are heavily vetted, that sounds like a dumb way to attack the United States. It would seem pretty obvious that it would be smarter, easier and quicker to get a fake passport or just sneak in, which is theoretically possible even if there are no refugees from Syria.

In the amount of time it takes before a Syrian refugee could arrive in the US, more people will have died in mass shootings in the US by US citizens than were killed in last weeks Paris attacks.
