Oh yeah....

Should have known that one as I have a friend who's crazy over it. However, I'm not a sports fan...

I suppose neither of us will ever understand the US, then?

There's a pretty strong argument that golf is the most popular sport in the US anyway so the whole thing kind of falls apart. Especially since bowling and darts are probably the most widely played ones if you think about it

You got my curiosity going so I googled most popular sports in the US. Fo
otball came in #1 everything else in a separate category. Golf came in #7.

For participatory sports Excercise walking came in #1, swimming #2... fishing #5 Golf at #14. Powerboating 10th, hunting with firearms 18th. My favorite motorboating doesn't seem to make the list

Maybe they fall in when fishing and have to swim back, but use the little motorized carts to drive around the golf course?

Where exactly is "here"? "Here" as in BE or "here" as in the US?

True though, USC means Southern Cal in the west but University of South Carolina in the South.

You do realize the true religion of the US is American college football don't you?

If you want to address and American, call him or her an American not an "USC". It will ingratiate yourself with those you want to teach rather than telling the idiot what he should expect to be called in his or her own land.

Are you a UKC?

OR UKS?

SS
What is your major malfunction?

Nobody is running around the streets of America referring to Americans as USCs, ffs. In case you haven't noticed, this is a website ... not the USofA. An website created by and for British Expats. An internet site heavily populated with immigration forums where, over time, acronyms have been developed for ease of communication. You are the one who is out of place and making a fool of yourself by showing your ignorance of both your environment and your audience, not the other way around. It would do you to show some manners, and take the time to learn how and why people use certain terms, instead of assuming incorrectly and making a fool of yourself.

PS - college football, much like reality TV, is very popular with a certain segment of the population but hardly the "religion" of the US. Perhaps you should get out more.

Yup. Up here, hardly anyone really mentions college football. If anything, college basketball is by far the most popular here (probably due to the University of Illinois). The NFL, more specifically Packers vs Bears, far outranks NCAA football as the 'religion of choice' in these parts ...

Down here it's high school football and the NFL. Other than the Texas/OU game (which is only once a year) nobody, other than students and alums, bothers too much with college football.

I actually know more people (born and bred Americans) who follow the Premiership than who follow college football.

Baseball is much bigger here than college ball.
