[He is lovely.
My ex came to his house once to get me, my car decided to stop running, and I was sat in his kitchen having a coffee with him, he didnt have a shirt on, and my ex wouldnt stop staring at him! Mike is REALLY nice, Brian Ferry however, a tosser!]
Well I'm really glad that I prance around the kitchen singing tunelessly to Mike and the Mechanics then, rather than Brian "tosser" Ferry!

[I shook hands with (former) president Aznar in Cordoba. Didn´t know who he was at the time - he was just walking down the street shaking everyones´ hand.]
That's just reminded me..............
We were on holiday in Barbados in 2001, when a man in a posh car stopped and asked us whether we needed directions (we were looking at a map, in the middle of nowhere!)
Next he asked us how Tony Blair was, which we thought was a strange sort of question!? Then he went on to tell us he was the Prime Minister!
We thought he was either mad/deluded, or he really was the PM!
It turned out he was telling the truth, because as we followed him back to St James, everyone along the roadside was waving at him!
He was a really nice, down to earth sort of bloke

Oh i have one more that gives me a great sense of satisfaction. when i was little princess diana opened our school she had a two hour chat i our classroom.
And then when i went on to join the army she was our cournel in chief as a member of the household calvary Ie the the queens personal guard on a regimental trooping of the colours i got to have lunch with her it was a formal affair but enjoyable.
And my grandfather who is 97 this year and has an mbe for services to england has luncheoned with the queen.

Wow! That sounds like great fun
Lucky you!I used to really enjoy London's Burning, but have to admit I lost track of it all after a while.
I really liked George
I think the (Greek) chief was called Nick, wasn't he? But his nickname was Zorba! (hope that doesn't offend Martha!)
Sounds like you had a really good time
Bet you're glad your Dad is retired now? It must have been such a worry for the family, every time he went out on a "shout" (see how I picked up the lingo!)
I think firemen (and women!) are SO brave, although thankfully I've never had to call on their services.
It was a terrible shock to discover that here in our (fairly rural) village, the nearest fire service is 40 minutes away!
When a house caught fire the night before New Year's Eve, it was the neighbours who put the fire out! The house was completely gutted by the time the firemen got here

That must have been a really great experience.
I'm sure everyone who met Princess Diana holds those memories with a great sense of affection.
You must be very proud of your Grandfather and his achievements; and I'm sure he loved his lunch with HM. Not many people can say they've done that.
Congratulations to him

....yessssss the fire engine WAS parked outside our house, luckily it was only the neighbour setting fire to an old shed in our garden, but could have been soooo much worse, Have always had a great regard for them, both before and since. Yes and neighbours (other side) daughter, who called the brigade had put the fire out with a bucket of water. Neighbour who set it alight had apparently done it several times before (we had only been in the house a couple of months) as she burnt rubbish next to the shed, and even piled up at the side, so fireman read her the riot act, didn't happen again.

another funny thing is that he was part of the liberation force that got to this end of france. although he was a concensose objector in the war so from normandy to here with out a gun in hand as he was a medic. But he came in the first wave up the beach. help those who had been shot which was a lot. my uncle is one of the first children he met whom he gave all his choclate rations to and became part of the family. and spent a lot of my childhood visiting.

This isn't a claim to fame, but the Princess Diana story reminded me of something funny that happened a few years back.........................
I was working at a residential community for people with Autism, and Princess Anne came to visit.
One of the women in the house I worked in, had a "special interest" in straw!
When Princess Anne came in, this lady proceeded to ask her numerous questions about straw!
"Do you like straw?" "Have you got any straw?" "How much straw have you got?" and so on.
Obviously, with Princess Anne's interest in horses, this was quite relevant to her, and she answered this lady's questions with very good humour.
She often gets a bad press, but I must say she seemed a very pleasant and down to earth person, and I think she made that lady's day!

[My grandfather is a loverly man]
He sounds like he is
Anyone who was on those beaches and came through it still human, is a hero in my eyes.
Those poor men were SO brave, and so unsuspecting.
It's unimaginable.

Talking about fire services, once once driving home from work, and saw a fire tender flashing it's light and it's siren going coming up behind, pulled over to the side to let him go and said to my wife (at the time, now ex) wouldn't hold them up, they could be going to our house. Turned into our streeet, and....

Yikes!
Bet your stomach was in your throat then!?
What a shock!
Thank goodness it was only the shed.
Silly woman - deserved a good telling off

Will get shot for this...but JULIE GRAHAM who plays Donna Doig in "Mobile" (tonight ITV) is staying here at the moment, just hired a car for a week. I have never watched the program myself and did not know who she was till someone told me!
