Well, if I were in the UK, I'd be bored and depressed with the greyness, as I always was. Here I have my garden, and while temperatures plummet in the UK very soon we will be enjoying a lovely indian summer that will stretch from September to december.
That is well worth the endurance of the two summer months, and we haven't even started on the spring! It has seemed to me that the weather has changed a little in both countries in recent years, maybe just a temporary thing, I don't know. The only thing that really got me down about the UK weather before I first lived in Spain was not so much cloud, but long spells of a week or more at a time closed in by fog, and after it continued for a while it felt almost claustrophobic, like being completely closed in. However in recent years that simply hasn't happened, certainly not in my area anyway, maybe just very occasionally a little fog for the odd hour or two, but nothing really worth mentioning. Last Winter was one of the coldest for quite a while with occasional snow, yet it was mostly crisp and bright and a real pleasure to be out and about. |
Re: Are you affected by the heat?
Grey day here today but always get a few days of sun each week. Ones where I can sit out and read a book without sweat running into my eyes. I have always tried to get out of Spain July and August, not only because of the heat but the tourists and crowded roads. Not much rain either the village pond is drying up fast.
Yesterday we went to Highclare castle. Really enjoyable (where Downton Abbey was filmed) and amazing gardens. Perfect scones with clotted cream. What would I have been doing in Spain...the odd swim and back in the shade, nada mas! September is good in spain, like a second spring when the first rains come. Shrivelled flowers come back to life. The spring...well the last few have been cold and wet in Spain! |

Re: Are you affected by the heat?
This summer's been quite pleasant here in London. Yesterday the rain came, and yet it still felt like a summer interlude. Today however it has absolutely poured down, and temperatures are none too clever. I realised that October is only just over 5 weeks away, and before long it will be getting dark at 4 o'clock (not too light now!). We may still get some warm sunny days, but Autumn and Winter are very close.

"Autumn, Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness."
Always been a nice time of year, for me anyway, as the workload went down prior to Winter and I could relax and enjoy the countryside. Blackberries are already coming ripe, early for up here, looks like there will be loads of them. I imagine my Spanish garden will have been burnt to a frazzle by now. |
