OK, my word for today is...................

The verb caducar (regular verb)

It means "to expire", which I discovered when I was trying to check Once lottery tickets going back to May!!

Needless to say they "caducan" after 30 days!

Reminds me of a Spanish joke that wags always like to tell English speakers.

Pedro from Lepe decided that to learn English well he'd have to go to holiday in England and he soon found himself wandering around the sights of London. Although not very good at English, he tried his very best wherever he went.

He walked so nuch that he soon developed blisters and walking became agony. Refusing to be beaten, he went into a chemist's to look for something to allieviate the problem. As he didn't have a clue what the word for blisters was he improvised.

"Mi Foots. Mucho walk. Kaput!"

Luckily for Pedro, the assistant spoke Spanish as he was from Madrid and in London to master English. The assistant knew straight away that Pedro was a fellow Spaniard and tried to help him out.

"¿Hay Ampollas?"

Pedro determined to crack on in English answered

"Hello Mr Pollas, I am Pedro!"

Didn't say it was a good joke ;)

My two words for today.....

When General Motors introduced the Chevy Nova in South America, it was apparently unaware that “no va” means “it won’t go.” After the company figured out why it wasn’t selling any cars, it renamed the car in its Spanish markets to the Caribe.

When Parker Pen marketed a ballpoint pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to say “It won’t leak in your pocket and embarrass you.” However, the company mistakenly thought the spanish word “embarazar” meant embarrass. Instead the ads said that “It wont leak in your pocket and make you pregnant.”
