Once more with feeling. There are cultural occasions where a stranger is welcomed by one side because he is seen as being distinct from that 'side's ' enemies.
In this SINGLE event, I said that THIS person may have been helped by the fact that he was not spanish.
I neither know or care what the rest of the gypsy world thinks of the rest of us. Your experiences are of no relevance to this comment because you were not there. I had taken the precaution of posting it as a supposition (may have been) rather than as a certainty.
OK??

I try to understand in your language (I would like to see that you make it in Spanish), enough so that you thank me, not so that you criticize me. I don't need to watch movies about gipsies (maybe you see them you), because I have worked with them, I have played with them, etc...

I think that a dislike to gypsies is the only thing everybody in Spain agrees on. And there are several reasons for that. There has been a wave of Romanian gypsies but we've always had "Spanish" gypsies. I don't think it's the same in other European countries.
I think "usted" is a word only foreigners (and canarios) use

Now it will be that the Spaniards are racist, that are not right, that it is a national madness, because you has arrived, and you have changed all the gipsy community
If you want that I wins you for to say foolishness, I also know how to say

Barrio Pinet has some of the best houses in Oliva, best views and best climate. This is where most Brits I know bought houses, both rich and poor. Also French , German and Dutch have homes there. Many were previously owned by gypsies or by Spanish anxious to buy the new flats in the town. Most of my students were local Spaniards who also had gypsy neighbours or Brits who were learning Spanish. I was the token Brit on my district council in charge of education and culture and we had two gypsies, one a social worker, who was our secretary and a builder who was in charge of law and order. The rest were Spaniards who had successful businesses in the district and the Mother Superior of our local convent which was a village house next to Bar Pelut, the best bar in Oliva which had some gorgeous gypsy waitresses. you really ought to do your homework before you open your very big mouth.
You come make like a cross between , Miss Jean Brodie and Miss Msrple, but you really are a nasty bitter little ond woman albeit with "impeccable Spanish".
Who the hell are you to tell me do do my homework beofre opening my very big mouth?
So being the teacher that your claim to be, could you tell me where to look for the information that might change my opinion of what the majority of the Spanish belive.
I have heard discussions on this subjet for most of my life and the conclusion is they are not liked
I am giving you the opinion of what the majority of Spanish, think of the gypsies, like it or not that is how feelings are.
I left Spain when I was 7 but I still remember that in Galicia in those days, they were not considered highly.
The local bars dreaded the gypsies coming in because other customers would not enter, the barman used to ignore them untill they went away. also the non gypsies that chose to associate with them were also looked down upon.
I dont have to do my homework, I saw it with my own eyes and being a kid thought it quite funny and frightening at the same timel.
You dont have the monopoly of opinions about Spain, and you seem a real odd ball to me, in an eccentric sort of way, but with a nasty little mean streak, judging by your comments about Relampagos level of English.

Just to add on about my daughter´s friend...who is very nice and polite.
I like her and she gets on well with my daughter. In fact, I like the whole family. But there are other gitano families that go to the school. And they are not so nice....
These children only play with their gitano cousins in the playground and do not play with the other spanish kids. Apparantely according to my children they are told not to..
I have heard a few of the spanish moms talk derogatory about these families. One boy is in my son´s class and my son tells me that everyone hates him. I feel quite sorry for him really.
One spanish mom told us that she likes black people (DVD sellers type) because they try and earn a living but she doesn´t like the gitanos because they are lazy and they get free houses.
Just my personal experience of gypsies...not saying that I dislike them but seems most around here do dislike them.

Your spanish sounds very out of date hardly anyone uses "usted" either. My friend's father insisted that everyone addressed him with usted but this was decades ago. The only person who has ever used usted to me is my Bank manager
