I have been using Astrill VPN on my iPad for some time but I recently had a look at Unblock-US which is a Smart DNS service for $4.99/mth.
It works on all the devices I have and you just change the DNS settings to theirs.
You can install it on a router but it's just as easy to run it on each device independently and you can run it on all of them at the same time.
They do a one week free trial so give it a go. The Internet speed is not affected and it works with all the usual streams, BBC, ITC, C4 etc.

I use HMA, and have had no problems on devices. If it works when you change to a certain server, untick the change server regularly button and stick with the one that works well. Different servers of theirs have different loads at different times of the day. Mine is set to go to the least loaded server
