Visit to Uk

An airport isn't representative of a whole country though is it. A croissant at málaga airport costs about 4 euro but it doesn't mean that they cost that everywhere. I use Gatwick and heathrow and can't recall having paid that for a coffee, I am sure I would have remembered

its £2.70 for a small frappacino, £2.90 for medium and £3.10 for big i think different flavours are diff prices. That is price of Mocha in london area

I don't need to love, I live here and compared to a great many countries the UK is a paradise, it may not have the heat that Spain has but it does have nice long drawn out evenings in the summer, something you don't get in Spain.
To claim that the UK has nothing good is absolutely ridiculous and shows us more than we need to know about the way you view the world.
Oh and DC made comments about militant Islam, if you need me to explain the difference between that and the myth of Britains "lost identity" let me know eh?

I am with you on that. Dartmoor is wonderful as is most of South Devon. Go to the South Hams for beauty, especially Burgh Island or as a child I always thought it was called Bear Island. Okay you can and will get bad weather, which is the only reason I moved to Spain, but I love to go to the cinema, art exhibitions, the theatre and most of all to see my family and friends, but I do agree a visit is expensive, although prices in the supermarkets in Spain seem to be catching up.

Try to avoid going to the pub for a drink - I always felt I was being robbed openly when I returned to the UK from Spain. Still do - I don't mind paying more than £3 for a beer or wine, but feel the Spanish way of offering free tapas is far more welcoming than having to pay 80p for a poor quality packet of Walkers' crisps. Apart from that, the thing I feel the UK excels in is their parks and country houses. Within a short time the bulbs should be in flower, so try and go for a walk in a local park.

oh dear, I was enjoying reading this thread about curry, charity shops, Tesco then it became another slanging match.
Any chance of pm ing each other - many viewers may get the impression that UK expats in Spain thrive on slagging each other off.
My nan use to say if you haven't got anything nice to say keep quiet.

Have you not see the paellas that are brought in frozen, the ready froxen mis with the prawns mussels and the rest in packs that is sold in the supermarkets and wholsalers.
The lovely "fresh" bread and bolleria that is frozen and the cafe bar or shop just bungs them in the oven?
There are still some traditional places, but even the most popular eating places for workies at lunch time, are using frozen chips, veg, meat and fish.
Less waste, and if the quality is compromised, so be it, just like in the rest of the developed world, the freezer is the most importand piece of equipment in most kitchens
in Spain, and I dont mean just for the Brits eateries either.
If you think that you are getting traditional cooking you are sadly mistaken.
In my line of work I come into contact with all types of establishments and most are l heading the same way.

So from that, many of you think I am anti the UK.
I am from the Snowdonia National Park area, now that place does take some beating I can tell you, and I do miss the scenery and all that goes with it (except the rain).
I also miss many foods, (mostly junk).
What I actually feel about the Uk is that they have nothing any more, it's all been sold off to foreigners, so what's British these days other than the scenery? Even Rolls Royce, the old sign of success, and said to be at one time, the finest car in the world, is now German owned. What they used to be great at, like the post office sending letters for instance, and the Rag trade has all taken a step backwards. Now if people can't see that, I think that also shows how they view the world, i/e with blinkers on.

and here with fields full of purple suegras, and the roadsides stuffed with flowers you'd pay to put in your garden in the UK, fields full of white, claret or blue, and so on. Spring in Spain is pretty damn colourful.

Yes there are a lot of things wrong with the UK. Annoying as they are it doesn't exactly interfere with the average person does it. If they have a decent paid job, nice house, kids at private school, expensive holidays etc. they aren't likely to give it all up to live in an equally shit country, where you will always be the disadvantaged foreigner and work for 10 euro an hour....thats just for losers.
