Moses, my budget is £150k & I'm not looking for finance. My only requirements are: nice weather (so I guess Southern Spain); and airport accessible (say no more than an hour's drive) and the usual things like ulilities available & being within striking distance of a town (but not in one). I've also not decided on whether or not to go for an urbanisation. Any ideas?

A few points to consider..the weather is not always good in the winter months, it can be wet, windy and cold, most utilities are available but internet and TV can be a problem in some places and urbanisations are a personal choice. Why dont you rent for a few months to get an idea of the area?

Hi Wilshb. I know Neptuno doesn't like it, but it's just my opinion and it is an urbanisation in the desert (see picture). I'm sure plenty of people wish they hadn't bought in Camposol, but back then they were blinded by the sun and it seemed affordable compared to other areas. There are probably also people who like it, but there are issues and that's a fact. Now is a great time to buy and properties in areas people couldn't afford to buy back then are affordable now. There's nothing wrong living in an urbanisation and here also a pic of our area where we have a holiday home (also urbanisation). Nice weather is different for us all, but 2500 hours sunshine a year isn't that bad in my opinion.

Thanks Chris. My plan is to carry on working for now, so I would only be able to rent for weeks, rather than months - but I think it's a good idea & I might explore doing that.

Thanks Moses. What is your area? At the moment, I'm considering all options.

We're in Girona (Costa Brava) region. It's about 15 mins to Blanes, 10 mins to Lloret. Very peaceful area, but you have everything close by and Girona Airport is also only 20 mins away + Barcelona roughly 1 hour away. It's not really a British area (they all head further south), so you get a good mix of nationalities. For me it ticks all boxes, because you have nice walks, beaches, good climate (green). In winter it can get a bit cold during night, but not too hot in summer and still plenty of sun. When I say not too hot, maybe not 40 °C , but could still be 30 °C in summer.

Have you actually visited Camposol, or just seen some photos on the Internet?

My personal dislike of urbanisations like Camposol are the very small plot sizes typically around 500mtrs with occasionally some up to 1000mtrs giving a very crowded congested appearance. Also the possibility of lots of noisy neighbours.
I prefer somewhere with a little elbow room. my nearest decent urbanisation, although I have no desire to live there is offering plats from 2,500 to 11,000mtrs

Our plot is 600 metres which is quite enough for anyone to maintain
Unless you are a farmer why would you want a massive plot, especially when getting older.
Actually, it is very quiet here,
In the school holidays when lots of children visit, of course there is noise, but certainly not unbearable.
I think there is a sort of expat snobbery in Spain, where some consider that their finca in the of middle of nowhere is somehow superior to an urbanisation, which seems to be considered in the same way as some in the UK think of council estates.

Not really visited, as there wasn't much to see. Just drove through and didn't like it. There are a few bigger villas with a pool, but no nice gardens and you're basically surrounded by a rocky landscape with weeds. The other cheaper properties hardly have any space and you'd be better off in an apartment near the coast.

You don't need a massive plot, I agree. We don't own a finca in Spain and are also on an urbanisation with roughly 650m2, but the term urbanisation in Spain is very misleading. Urbanisation can mean outskirts of a town, or estate. We are on the outskirts of a town and Camposol is an estate. Estate can also be fine if it was actually planned well.

There are a LOT of villas with pools
There are some beautiful gardens
Perhaps you should have got out of your car and had a proper look round!

That's fine if you like it, but had another walk around on street maps and still didn't see much I like. With a healthy budget of €200.000, I'm advising wilshb to consider other areas.

Hi folks. Just got in from work. There are some really useful and insightful comments on here and thank you all. I'll have a look at Girona as Moses suggests (30 °C is just nice!), but I'm still interested in Camposol & I've contacted Mercer estate agents to give me more info on it, but also on other places.
