If you balance the lower cost of living against the lower wages there will probably be as little in the bank at the end of the month as in the UK, but the quality of life, weather, friendly natives, clean streets, clean on time public transport, safer environment could just persuade you you are making the right move. I did it 4 years ago, came with no job and not of an age where I want to start at the bottom again. I have survived, have friends of all nationalities, work part-time and am happier than ever before.

Viewing update: Sunday 17 June, 2pm - 4pm (first Sunday viewing). Cleaned and tidied house again until it was perfect! Mum came to keep me company and help with the viewings as I was expecting hordes of visitors. (When my cousin was selling his house a few weeks ago, he had 13 viewings on the first Sunday which resulted in 9 notes of interest.) So, I had high hopes for my beautiful house. We sat in the garden and waited.....and waited....and waited....and waited.

NOBODY CAME.

Sorry to hear that Kyla. It's all a bit of a pain selling unless you're one of those lucky people who sell in the first week. We had a couple last week who we thought would make an offer but they decided to see a few more houses. Had 2 viewers today and another tomorrow. We have had to change estate agents but at least they are now sending people to view unlike the old ones.
Keep and don't get to excited because the let down is horrid.

Oh Kyla! What Bar Stewards! :curse:First thing in the mornig, get on the phone and let your agents have it! Both barrels! What swines! :curse:The way I see it, if they are selling or have sold their house they will know how stressful it is and would have at least let you know in advance! Ask the agent if the have sold their house yet, if not, tell them not to bother sending anyone who hasn't at least got it on the market. So sorry Kyla, it is such a let down when you have put everything into cleaning and tidying the house to make it presentable for viewers!
Just had another thought! I wonder how many missed viewings there would be, if it was the agents responsibility to prepare the house for viewings? I LIKE that idea VERY much!
Keep your chin up though Kyla, at least it sounds as though there are plenty of potential viewers out there! Like us, maybe it will be the next one!! Fingers crossed for all of us!
Love Chris XXX

Wow, Way to go Sunnydee! When you get yours sorted, can you please send your surplus viewers round to Kyla and me? Well done, sounding good and fingers naturally crossed for you!

Thanks Chris. Tomorrow will be the first time the estate agent is doing the viewing so Howard's going to listen to what he says - I keep thinking I must be saying something wrong!

Stick with it Kyla, it´s early days yet! We sold our house last year and moved over to Spain permanently, but it took 7 months to do it, having to make sure the house looked immaculate at all times just in case a viewing was arranged at short notice. After 6 months we reduced the asking price by 5% and promptly got 5 offers within the space of a week, two of them at the reduced asking price, and the buyer then wanted us to complete within 5 weeks. We did it but it was a difficult and stressful time (plus spending weekends over the six months prior to putting the house on the market getting maintenance jobs done, decluttering and redoing all the paintwork, etc). It will all be worth it in the end, good luck to you.

Thanks Lynn. I know it's early days. I'm too impatient, that's my problem. I'm aiming to move to Spain at the beginning of September and at the moment, it's not looking good. I took advice from the estate agent and I know my 'offers over' price is reasonable and fair, taking into account the current market and based on the agreed sale price of similar homes sold in the same street over the past 6 months. So, I was hoping for a lot of interest this afternoon. I'm very disappointed. But I'm realistic and I don't expect an easy ride. This is my first experience north of the border. I lived in London for 13 years and sold my flat 5 years ago after 6 long and stressful months. I thought it would be easier here - Scottish property law is totally different. Maybe people are too busy planning their summer holiday in Spain, than thinking about moving house. And who could blame them! lol

Don't you believe it Sunnydee! Who knows your home better than you! Tell the agent that you will be listening however, because some seem to have taken a vow of silence! Others will list all the house's attributes, omitting it's shorcomings if there are any. That is a good agent! I think when you do the viewing yourself, the only drawback is that you give them too much information that is really not necessary. Anyway, good luck for tomorrow's viewing! We are all crossed ready for you!

What a horrible thing, your agents should be lined up against a wall and shot, very slowly and painfully, start at the toes and work up.
