Default Are prices going up/down in your part of Spain?

According to financial pundits, deflation is the next big risk for Europe (including Spain).

Are prices generally going down? Not just talking about shopping, eating out or the electric bill - could be house prices or hired help rates.

Only talking about the part of Madrid I live - if anything prices are shooting up. A good Menu del Dia is hard to find for under 10 euros, and a lot of places are charging 15-20 euros for a brunch.
Having said that, I can pop to another barrio, order a small beer for 1.30 or 1.40 euros and get an amazing amount of food in my free tapa. Still the odd place where a MdD can be had for 8 euros. So the gap between higher charging establishments and older established places appears to be widening.

Beer still available at 1 euro and tapas + beer for less than 2 euros. A barra of bread at my local bakery is 80cents, same price as when I bought my house in 2008. Very little change either way in our part of Andalucía, but then again we are not on the tourist route.

The price of a coffee at my local bar has just risen from €1.00 to €1.10
The first increase since we arrived in 2005. Beer has remained at €1.00 for a tubo.

The price of electricity, gas and diesel has certainly risen sharply during this time.

Our shopping bill has stayed within + or - €5.00 throughout .
We do seem to have a little bit more cash left over at the end of the week these days. But that could be due to simply managing our finances better

Local Pueblo,
Crisis menu 2 course, 4 euros.
Menu del Dia 3 course, from 5 euros up to 7.50 incl bottle of wine and water.
Coffee 1 euro to 1.20 euro

Wok buffet in neighbouring town 8.95

Nothing much changed in the local pueblo, but when I go into bigger nearby towns and cities, I find lots of traditional Spanish bars have been taken over by the Chinese.

They seem to have learned how to make half decent coffee, but lack the atmosphere of the typical chatty Spanish run bars.

Haven't seen those prices since about 1995 on the CDS

Prices staying the same is good news for expats but must be a disaster for bar owners. Rents and utilities have risen considerably.

Did see this week that Spain's inflation was down, along with some other Eurozone countries. Technically they are in deflation although Rajoy denied this.

Surely it depends on customer numbers - also on whether you can sell other products/events etc.

Electricity and petrol have gone up and gas bottles have doubled in a few years but aside from those I am not aware of any great changes here - beer and coffee 1.00 to 1.20, menu del dia 8.00 to 10.00. House market is dead so unable to say whether prices have risen or fallen.

Probably why so many of them are falling into the hands of the Chinese, who possibly have other motives.

No doubt all the bars will be packed to bursting point where Stevie lives
....but I must say from what I've seen during my recent travels many bars are sparsely populated with a small beer or a coffee being the order of the day apart from a few basic menu del dias.

I occasionally see punters walk into bars with their own food, usually just a bocadillo or similar and settle down with a half of beer for the rest of the day.
Come to think there was one place where I did it myself quite often, though I generally made it a bit more worthwhile for the Landlord.

Please expand your point as to what these "motives" may be.

.
My shop is based near plaza Santo Domingo in Madrid.
I'm quite welcome to take anyone who pops in the shop, either at 3pm or at 8.30pm, to busy bars and restaurants. Not just close to this square, but in other barrios like Conde Duque, Malasana, or Lavapies.
So I can back up my assertions every week of the year. I may even get around to taking pictures with the tablet, as proof!
Since Dick will not divulge exactly where he is (which is fair enough) then we have to take his observations with a large pinch of salt.

Prices have gone down in our village. Loads of bars/restaurants have "special" nights. €5 for a main meal. €1 for a wine and a tapa. Happy hour €1 for a wine. Nothing like this 8 years ago.

So the bottom line is that Spain is still doing badly, not the sign of a booming economy is it. Good news for expats though, shame about the struggling Spaniards.

Should we judge the prices in Spain from the price of coffee and wine in bars? Of course
prices have gone up, utility prices have gone through the roof. You need to be a millionaire to afford a fast internet connection, and if you're an expat missing English TV, you are unlikely to get a live connection unless you cheat the system.
