I saw part of the Wright Stuff programme this morning where this incident was being talked about. Apparently the student who didn't have the right ticket had admitted to being drunk - and his father was complaining that he had been chucked off the train which might have put him at risk as he was a diabetic. If he's a diabetic, why had he been drinking to excess? It could play havoc with his blood sugar level.
I agree that the wisest course of action would have been to get the Transport Police to meet the train at the next station and let them deal with him, but I wouldn't like to see the guy who intervened prosecuted. I would have felt like doing the same if my journey home after a hard day had been held up because of some drunken idiot.

You would think that a university student would have enough common sense to either see he was sold the wrong ticket or at least be fluent enough to explain clearly the problem to the conductor.
But then again perhaps that's why graduates are stacking shelves in Tesco's
