One for the do gooders to jump on

Unfortunately the passenger who quite rightly threw this asshole off the train is likely to get prosecuted

That would be about typical if he was prosecuted. Some idiot refuses to pay, gets his just deserts, and the good guy gets stuffed
Ah well
Ah well

I can't see in the case of ticket avoidance that it has anything to do with a member of the public.
I would have understanding and endorse involvement if the use of bad language or the threat of violence was used and have intervened myself with regards to such matters myself in the past.

Well let's not jump to conclusions and get all worked up. Some people seem to go very quickly down the road of:
This might happen > This probably will happen > This is going to happen > If it happens it will piss me off > I'm pissed off.
So now people are getting as pissed of as though it had actually happened.
Only problem is, nothing has actually happened at all yet.
It's rather like getting angry with people for things they do in your dreams.
Incidentally - just curious, but why does Spain need its own, private, TIO-type forum, when the rest of us just muck in together in the general TIO? Is it like Business Class or something? Free newspapers and special furniture?

I wonder how it would be viewed in this scenario....
the lad who got thrown off the train started walking home or hitch hiking and got hit by a car, or was later attacked ?

I am keeping an open mind about this incident. The youth's Father was on radio yesterday afternoon. His version is that he bought 2 single tickets as it is cheaper that way. He made a mistake at the machine and bought 2 in the same direction. He was frustrated because the Guard wouldn't listen to his explanation. Father says they have put in a complaint and can prove he had no intention to defraud as he has 2 tickets bought that day.
I know some are going to say that of course he would say that wouldn't he....perhaps but he sounded plausable

.I got to Bristol for a train to Birmingham, but early. I asked the guard on the platform if it was OK if I got on the earlier train and he said yes, no problem. Just before (I think) Cheltenham a guard came round checking tickets, and told me I should have been on the next train, an hour later. Although the train was quite empty and I had a bike strapped up in the luggage section, she demanded that I get off at the next station and wait for the next train.

I notice that mistake a lot and seldom comment as usually all you get back is abuse.
The attitude of both ticket man and the youth leave a lot to be desired and the whole scenario could have been dealt with better by both.

The big guy can be charged with assault, as he wasn't an employee of the rail company or a Police officer, and therefore wasn't legally acting for the property holder. If the fare dodger or big guy had been injured, who's responsible?
Transport Police are trained and paid to deal with this. Let them deal with it.
