I think nowadays a lot of men are capable of cooking, housework etc, I don't do the ironing, but anything else I can do. And being ex military, I can iron perfectly well, just I like to let her think she is indispensable! 
One of my sons is in the military and he does everything in the house, cooking, cleaning,washing etc, the other is single, lives alone, and there's nothing he can't do, they are both excellent cooks. I think in most houses, the days where the man did a day's work, came home, put his feet up and did nothing else are long gone. Might still be a few dinosaurs though. I worked with the meanest man that ever lived (his wife agreed with me!) and he died within 3 months of retiring, what is the point? His wife never had to worry about money though, he left a fortune!

OH does most of the cooking because he likes cooking. If I cook we bicker because he tries to interfere
My Daughter's Husband was in the Military and he does more in the house than she does and far better organised.
As for the pensions, yes it's fair (unfortunately). I reckon that the 5 years or so I shall have lost would have bought a few luxury exotic holidays when added up

learnt to wash by hand, iron, mend etc etc at 16, self taught cook out of necessity.
now I make a useful little house husband to the OH so that we can share our time together - because of circumstances that is precious to us, even if it is doing the washing up.
she prefers to do the washing and ironing instead of cooking so you can see I am usually quite busy.

BTW my son irons mostly because I never had time to or interest in it. I iron for pleasure............. about twice a year.
But my husband never will, and so he goes out crumpled! Life's too short.

I do very little in the house or garden.
We have discussed my retirement and my wife says that when I retire that is going to change with everything being shared.
I think she is trying to get me to put off my retirement for a couple of years extra peace during the day.

I can't see many women carrying on working when their hubby retires. Most will either retire at the same time & take a reduced pension or force their hubby to work past 65.

?Eh? What kind of people do you hang around with? Don't mean to be rude but times have changed you know! Women are no longer considered to be 'hangers on' to their husbands with no life of their own!! Also, what about wives who are younger than their husbands for example.

I'm quite happy that the retirement age has gone up for women - and men. I'm not sure why anyone would think it shouldnt when you consider that we're all alot fitter and will probably spend a lot longer retired and bored anyway!!

Funny really isnt it. Women have fought thru history for the right to work, equal pay, the right to hold down responsible jobs.... now they're fighting to be able to retire much younger than they need to and to get paid for the privilege of not working!? Make your mind up girls

Surely you only work for one reason & that is to get money. If you have enough money you can relax and enjoy life.
I'll second that

If you have plenty of cash when retirement comes then it could be quite fun - otherwise bingo everyday at the community centre!
