I'll second that
How much money is enough?

What a question, it is like "cost of living" thread, loads of different answers, for me it means to be able to still afford the Leer Jet, helicopter, Ferrari Testiclerossa and the 30meter dinghy.

For other posters who are more materialistic than me, it could be quite a large amount of money.

in a weak moment the OH said last night that £1m would be enough for her.

Suggestions for the other £150m+ on one side of a piece of toilet paper and send to me via the Lamson tube system next to the bath.

That's the 64,000 dollar question as they used to say.
That prize would easily have set most ppl up for life back then, but certainly not now.

For some ppl such as bankers no amount of money would ever be enough and they'd always greed for more.

Others much less materialistic may already be content with what they have as long as they are comfortable, contented and free to pursue their main aims and hobbies in life, so even a minor windfall of half a million or so would be enough to give them all the security and peace of mind they feel they may ever need.

What a shame that most people only work for money. I feel so fortunate to be doing a job that I'd still do if I won the lottery! ............I'd just do a lot less of it and charge a lot more to reduce demand!

I loved the work I did for a wage even though it was extremely stressful bit I really loved the work I never ever got paid a penny for. Miss doing both although I still do occasionally find that I can use my skills/ability/knowledge (do not know how to label it really) in a lesser way.

It really winds me up when lottery winners go back to work because they're bored! Can you really not think of anything else to do with your time????? I have so much I would like to do & so many places I would like to see that I would have to down tools the very second I won to cram it all in.

how many people complain about the way a company is being run, how they could do better with both hands behind back etc etc etc then they win the lottery
but never buy the business or start their own in competition just sit back and say "I'm bored"

OH says I am mad cos I would make the money work for me but then she also says I am a workaholic -

One of the early lottery winners lived in Hastings I think. My understanding is that he bought the company that he worked for and made it into a much better company than it had been.

How sad is it that people are bored when they win the lottery? Is British life really that sad that people know nothing other than work or sitting on their backsides watching TV all day

perhaps thats because they have spent the past 40 years doing nothing else and don't know how to change. which is probably why they find it so difficult when they retire, looking out of the window watching the youngsters go to work then the kids go to school and then the reverse at home time.

IME those who have interests outside home and work seem to live longer because they have something to look forward to. I know its harder as the body starts to give out - its happening to me, but this forum has many who have interests outside the limited boundaries of work and home.

It really depends on what job you do. Sure, I wouldn't want to be a factory worker if I won the lottery (excuse me anyone who really enjoys that). But some jobs are very fulfilling, and let you see the world and meet really interesting people as well. Or someone might love being an Architect/teacher/doctor or whatever.
I wouldn't "go back because I was bored" I'd just never stop in the first place! I'd just like to earn a bit more money. The lottery would do that for me;-)
