Those of you looking to move to Alhaurin personally I think it hits all my needs, just wish they would finish the Mijas road so at least we can sit outside without getting covered in dust, lol. Left last night and they had put the hardcore down so hopefully when we get back we will have new asphalt and be able to get into our driveway.
Glad to hear it's all going well for you so far!

We have signed up for our removals now; we had too much to move ourselves otherwise I would have been up for doing it myself. The insurance isn't good it only covers complete loss so I will have to take out a seperate policy for damage or theft.

Can you name the company that moved you? Also what sort of things vanished; were they taken out of boxes?

I do not think I would be allowed to say whom the company is as it may put the forum in a position of liability what I can do is send you it privately.

The things that went disappeared as complete boxes but as the contents were not written on the boxes it may just have been luck on their part. That is the stuff we have realised that has gone, have no idea of the stuff that may have been forgotten about or my business stock that may have gone. Also stuff that is of absolutely no use really a 4ft work top taken for a specific job and counter units that without the fixings that I have are nothing but scrap wood. strange really.

Would recommend though if you have ANYTHING of personal value to maybe take it with you and not send it by carrier (ie laptops, jewellery etc).

I am an open minded person and I do not wish to castigate before I have dealt with it but be assured will keep you all informed of our progress, it is not the fact that certain items have gone as they are replaceable it is the information they contained and the emotional value of items that can not be replaced.

You live and learn and if it helps others who are making the move to not make the same mistakes then it all comes out in the wash.

Good luck with your move and if you need any help will try to help.

A proper company would give you an inventory/invoice stating all items and how many boxes etc.

The contents was originally going out in a container we purchased but plans change and the container was no longer a viable option.

As we had packed the boxes and the container previously and it had been in storage an inventory of contents was to be done by myself. I would challenge anyone to remember what they put into boxes almost 12 months earlier, as the boxes were being removed from the container I was trying to mark each one with a number so I could tally at both ends the number of boxes but was told no need to continue, I also tried to fill out an inventory of what was being transferred as it was moved but again was assured not required.

They did bring up the matter of an inventory when I contacted them to report the losses as it was for my protection in such just a case, until I pointed out that it was their staff that told me not to bother.

They also admitted at the time of deposit in Spain that the van and trailer had been emptied and repacked to even out weight, this became only a partial unload and repack and that nothing had been left.

At the time of collection I queried the weight limits several times but again was assured.

We live and learn

I am sorry that some of your stuff was lost but a good job there was nothing of real/sentimental value.

When we moved last year the removal company was fantastic and every scrap turned up.I was very worried as I had lots of valuable/sentimental belongings which cannot be replaced.Hope I can mention the name "Britannia Leatherbarrow/Lanes" cos I have nothing but praise for them.

Its great to see your stuff again the other end isnt.

Good luck with settling in.

We don't want to live in UK anyway, so looks like we will be settling here!
To use the old phrase, we are at a crossroads in our lives, the only difference is that our crossroads has a roundabout on it too!
Hi Shoemanpete how are you getting on in the new place? We arrived a few weeks ago and a really enjoying our new home and town.

Hi JustinTime, thanks for asking. It is very lovely here, peaceful surroundings, nice people although nearly all Brits. The convenience of being near F'rola for all the amenities is great and that we can get away from it also. Same for you I guess.
We can see the sea in the distance from our terrace and the lights of the area at night.
So far, Spain is good but early days yet.
I want to sell my rhd car in the UK in Oct, know anyone?

Hi Shoemanpete;

Same for us; it is wonderful so far. We have great inland views and have managed to cram a lot of exploring into the first month. I was commenting recently that it has been easier for us to set up here than it was in Australia which I find surprising.

I don't know of anyone looking for a UK car but I will let you know if I come across anyone as I meet more people. I am wondering what to do with mine also when it's time to register it in Spain or buy another one.

I met a man up in Ardales last week who has been here for 30 years and was driving an English registered car. I wish I had asked him for some advice!

Regards
JustinTime

Hi Justin, easy name to remember as it happens to be my Son's name!
Not that I want to keep my car here, but if WE tried to drive it here for years on end, which is illegal, we'd get caught. How others get away with it I don't not know.
On earlier threads, there was suggestion that the newbies should meet up. Never happened, same on another forum I am on, all good intentions but no action? How about you and I and our other halves meet for a drink somewhere, but make it happen?

Yes it would be nice to meet people from the forum. Anyone else interested?
