Well we are moving back to England in just under 3 weeks time, from Spain. We moved here 2 years ago with our 10 yr old son (now 12 )a dog and 2 cats.Things were ok but never brilliant, our son did very well at school and is fluent Spanish,we know some but not as good as him! We have had to wait for 8 months due to the animals having their jabs, plus we are taking 2 extra dogs back with us as our dog we brought out had 11 pups here a year ago!Anyway just want to say we are glad we came and tried it,i think some people love it here more then others,we dont hate it but there are so many things we miss.................some silly things too, like carpets, central heating in winter, food shops, chinese, indian, kebab and all the other take away places u can order late at night and get them delivered! This might sound silly, but christmas at home, all the atmosphere in the towns during that time of year, the hustle and bustle, christmas carols and father xmases on the street!
Sorry i am going on a bit and getting boring.........anyone else who are moving back to,well i hope it all goes smooth for you and when u get back you appreciate what you have in OUR country and make the most of it!
Anyway im sure i might come on here b4 we go as it might be a while b4 we get online back home. Thanks for reading.

I say you have been away a long time there is no such thing as Christmas in the UK as it is not PC. You are not allowed to call it same,You will upset all the NEW British folk. Good thing though you can have a nice takeaway for Sunday lunch after a visit to your new local Mosque, There is now one in every town and village.I think the capitals used in OURS above is somewhat overstated.Good luck with you move.

Hi
Sorry it didn't work out for you; but be proud - you tried it and had the courage to say it is not for you.
It is always a big step to change country; my parents did it in 1952. However it wasn't the panacea they wanted and we too returned.
I hope you can profit from your experiences here, and wish you well for the future. Yours is a good post, no recriminations, back biting whinging etc.

You sound quite dissapointed with your experience of living in Spain.
For me Spain has always been only for holidays and retirement, and I would not even consider working here.
We will always be guests in their country.
I do hope you find what you are looking for in the UK.
Good luck with your journey, should be interesting with all the animals!

Best of British!
You certainly gave it a good crack - two years.
UK should start turning the corner soon so coming at the right time,
Oh to be in England now that Spring is here..

I couldn't agree more with poshnbucks comments! One of our reasons for wanting to make the move AWAY from this place! It just doesn't feel much like home any more.

Thanks for all the replies. Posh, noone in England will ever tell me what i can do or cant do at Christmas,i understand that it might bother some but they might also do it in a way that bothers me!I wouldnt say we are disappointed with our time here, some Spanish are really nice people,i think its their lifestyle that annoys me,but thats the way they are so you have to accept it.My nephew is married to a Spanish girl here, even she admits they have funny ways!
But after being here for 2 years,we will go back and appreciate what we have in our country, you learn from things like this.
Also i think that there are lots of people that want to come out here and try it,but they really dont have the courage to give it a go,i would say go and see for yourselves,if you dont like it then you will learn from it.Those of you that are here and are considering returning home,i think should go home.......some people will say no give it more time, thats rubbish,if you are considering it,there has to be a reason...........so go 4 it!!!!
Anyway thats enough from me,thanks again for the replies!

Each and every one of us experience different things in Spain so there is no way anyone can say "do it this way and it will be right for you". You thought about the move, researched and tried it. Nothing can prepare you for the things that you miss or the things that you do not like here. The only way to find that out is to come and try and accept that if it is not right for you that you have to go through the hassle of returning.
Your son has succeeded in learning another language which may help him at some point in the future and you have all experienced an alternative lifestyle in a different country and that is worthwhile so nothing lost.
Good Luck in your re-location and I hope that things go smoothly for you.

You need to mix with the general population, your posh lifestyle seems to have blinkered your view of reality, plus I suspect your ability to converse in your adopted country isn`t great.
All countries have there good/bad points, but to state the UK is bad and Spain is great, is frankly odd considering you live in Spain.
There is no shame in prefering your home to an adopted country, ask the Romanians about that kind Spanish govt who are politely offering to return them back to there country.Yet they refuse because there robbing richer peeps in Spain than they ever could in Romania.

Good luck in the return, it was the best move I made so far, its nice to work and be paid for the hours and appriciated for the effort.Something lost on Spanish employers.
Christmas time in Spain is not great compared to the UK or other countries, i certainly missed it.
Although Fiesta`s in Spain are popular, like all things Spanish, its the same, every year, there idea of variety is poor, which makes seeing the fiesta`s frankly very boring.
Even when the fun fare rides arrive in town, its the same rides, from the 80`s, with the same people serving the same churro`s, in the part of town, doin the same as they did in the 1950 feria.

Or they have, this cracks me up, our town did the feria de tapa, in a tent on the beach, 20 meters from the bars, those bars had stalls in the tent, serving the same food they serve in the bars.
Now why have a Feria de Tapa, serving the same food as the bars do all year round, i was hoping to try Tapa from all over the regions of Spain, not the same as the bars serve, for less money.

Strange.

Hi HimnHer, I wish you all the best for your move back to the UK and may you settle back into a way of life that you are used to.
Everything that you have listed above I miss too, sometimes I think I would kill for a kabab, I haven't had one for 4 years
I miss Christmas back in the UK so much, we are going back for the month of December this year coz I can't bare to be away from all the hype of Christmas time. They are not silly things, they are things that you have been used to all your life and you won't loose those feelings over night. Many people move to another country for many different reasons, some like it some don't, it has been said before be proud of what you have done. You have been there, done it and got the t-shirt. l the dogs learn English before you take them back
