Seems like my speculation on the real source of the blockage (post #19) may be bang on the money ðŸ˜

Yep. I moved here in August 2020 with 6 points on my licence (speeding twice) and those points disappeared from my Spanish licence.
Previously a ticket for being 5km over the limit in Amsterdam (120kph but when its raining 100kph) followed me back to the UK about 14 years ago. Just a fine but there you go.

In France, if you hold a UK driving licence issued before 1.1.21 you are only obliged to swap your UK licence for a French one either when it is due to expire (ie you can't renew it with another UK licence) or when you commit a traffic offence.
And in practice not always then, because I got a speeding fine which in theory should have deducted a point or two but I was never asked to change my licence, I paid the fine and that was the last I heard of it.

ET highlights one of the main reasons why points exchange does not and cannot work, or at least not until there is a totally uniform EU wide licencing system and that ain't going to happen in my grand children's lifetimes!
Minor speeding in France (less than 20kph over the limit) results in a fine and the loss of a single point (out of 12) which, if you are a good boy and don't get caught again, you automatically get back in 6 months. They are not recorded anywhere either.
Yet they can demand a licence exchange for that single point but in my 11 years in France I never once heard of it happening.
I had maybe 3 or 4 of those in my time yet when I did dob my UK licence in for a French one I got the full 12 points on it.

It does to the Ukraine. The EU is sending billions a week in gas payments for Russian ammo and missiles.
The anti U.K. , Brexit sentiment on here is hilarious. Like kids on Twitter.
I think it’s because most people can’t afford to move back.
Seems post Brexit house prices are much healthier than Spain’s.
For the record I didn’t vote Brexit and love Spain.

Im not looking to offend anyone. Apologies.
Just find the anti U.K. sentiment on here a bit shocking.
Im no fan of Brexit, but to say the country has suffered since in comparison to EU is wrong.
The vaccine roll out and our response to Ukraine is proof of that. Which is why Macron is posturing for new political and defence “communitiesâ€.
The EU realised what they were missing when they had no decent intelligence regarding the Russia/Ukraine situation prior to the invasion.
The EU response and support of Ukraine has been embarrassing and highlights how poorly and inefficiently it functions. As did its efforts to purchase vaccines.

If they bought in Spain a few years back, or even a year ago. U.K. house prices have rocketed and most in Spain haven’t.
I bought a buy to let in 2011 for £110,000 that is now worth £350,000. It’s the opposite for many people who moved to Spain at that time.

Because most people can afford one house.
