Yeah but you can remove the stain with white spirit or nail polish remover

Sorry if this is getting all serious again Mitzyboy but if you haven't had an answer as yet then....

don't paint right over the galvanised metal, it should be treated so the paint can grip the surface better, otherwise it will probably start to flake fairy quickly. You will get a one coat treatment from any decent paint shop. Ware a mask and gloves as these can be strong brews and read the instructions, some of these treatments need the surface to be washed between being treated and painting.

Good luck on painting your erection...
