No he is male lol. I did have a female dog but she is now living in a finca near Tavira in Portugal. She was very wild and our house was just too small for her, so she can now run free over the hills. She did do some damage to the grass, but these patches are sssooooo big she would have to pee for England to cover that much

Heres a photo of what has happened to our grass Anyone got any ideas of what the problem is? Matt I have just sent you some by email. The last photo is how it should be (I think lol).

Sam judging from those I would say that your dog is a likely candidate. I know he is a ha, but its the salts in the urine that cause a problem. Follow him with a watering can so that you can wash off his pee.

If you get nowhere with that it could be dollar spot. Its a fungus and can be treated easily with a fungicide, but you will have to do it in the autumn. Just rake it out for now and keep an eye on it.

It cant be the dog because he hasnt been in the back garden for yonks. It is just too hot out there so we tend to sit in the front in the shade. Plus he only does a tiny little piddle as he is so small lol.

I think it may be the fungus so we will just have to bear with it till autumn. The thing is it is spreading like mad

Problem is that if you spray anything now you will definitely kill it, but you could spray locally, you know, just in that area.

I managed to get hold of a garden and lawn specialist who has just been round. The problem is that darn pesky caterpillar that has been eating away at the roots. He has now treated it so hopefully our lush lawn should grow back

Im not too sure how it gets to the roots, but we were warned about it when we decided to have grass. I am going to do some googling today to find out more about it, but apparently it is quite common.

I got a patch on my Spanish grass, but the roots of that are quite near the surface, I will have to have a closer look. ;-))

Sounds like it could be a mole cricket

http://www.arkive.org/species/ARK/in...ovietype=wmMed

Listen in your garden for the rather distinctive 'song' sounds like an ordinary cricket under water.

There is a product called Chas 48 which kills them.
