Gibraltar

I can't be bothered to look back but I can't imagine that anybody has said that Gibraltar is 'part of the UK' because it most definitely isn't. I think you've joined the ranks on here who use strawman arguments - you are arguing against something that no-one has said nor even thinks.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,[nb 6] commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain is a sovereign state located off the north-western coast of continental Europe.
so what is wrong with using UK or Britain or Brit for someone who comes from there - after all there is no term for a person for the UK in any form of common useage.

As an addendum to that; what is the accepted form for a person from Gibraltar? Gibbo doesnt sound very nice!

Spain enters Gib caveat in UN hazardous waste convention
The EU is not the only place where Spain punctiliously continues to press its position on Gibraltar as a clause in every international agreement. As recently as November 2013 amendment to the Basel Convention on the control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal, Spain introduced, via the office of the UN Secretary General, a communication relating to the territorial application by UK to Gibraltar.
The clause states that the implementation of the Convention, and any amendments, in Gibraltar “cannot be interpreted as recognition of any rights or situations involving matters not included in Article 10 of the Treaty of Utrecht of 13 July 1713, signed by the crowns of Spain and Great Britain.â€

EU Commission expects UK and Spain to comply with recommendations!
The Spanish Government is under increased pressure to deliver on the EU Commission recommendations sent in a letter in mid November to London and Madrid.
I also had an informal contact with one EU official who for obvious reasons I am unable to name. This person was aware that the previous day Mr Peter Bosch had attended the Gibraltar presentation at the EU Parliament, he reiterated, that ‘both the UK and Spain are expected to comply with the recommendations forwarded by the EU Commission in their November 15 (2013) letter to both sides’.
Coming the day after EU commission cabinet minister Peter Bosch let the cat out of the bag when he made a significant address during the ‘concern citizens’ presentation, this EU official was rather apprehensive in speaking too long or in depth about the matter.
The official was well aware of Mr Bosch intervention the previous day, he told me, “the Commission is not about emotion, although we know as in this case, that people on both sides feel a lot of emotion, but for different reasons. What we want as the body responsible, is to ensure that citizen’s rights of free movement are not compromised or violated. At the moment we believe Spain are infringing these rights, we want them to do something about it or will take the matter a step furtherâ€
I asked if a step further meant taking the Spanish Government to court, I was told: “all possibilities are open, what the Commission wants from both sides is clear in the Commissions recommendation lettersâ€. This was all this person wanted to say regarding the frontier issue. Although not a great deal, it did give a similar perspective to the one given by Mr Bosch the previous day.
