Gibraltar 2

Re: Gibraltar 2
Yes last week there were some shelves in Morrisons that were not fully stocked but we have had no difficulty in purchasing food.
However I think you should consider the fact that on the EU side of the channel they have had to employ hundreds if not thousands of new employees to handle the paperwork that has been absent for more than forty years.
Therefore no one left with previous experience to help smooth the way. This of course also applies to an extent in the UK but in the UK most of the paperwork should be done by the suppliers long before any truck gets to a port.
Other than Morrisons the other supermarkets source their products almost exclusively from inside the EU so there should be no problems for them other than false ones put in place on the Spanish side which have always existed.
With respect of the Gib - Spain border there have always been customs checks / procedures so non of this is new. Also the new ferry route for the four miles from Algeciras to Gibraltar was put in place as the La Linea customs are not qualified with respect to goods of animal origin.
With respect to the quote I am surprised that the post from "a Gibraltar resident" spells the name of their countrymen incorrectly

Re: Gibraltar 2
We get quite a few variants on "Portuguese" on the Portugal forum. And I've seen "Britons" (and "Britain", whether Great or not) get some pretty rough treatment from its natives, in various places.

Re: Gibraltar 2
It didn't surprise me at all. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen "Spainish" in posts on this forum - which could well, of course, be just a simple typo. It's also common, however, to read "could of", "should of", "I done", etc. which are less easily explained away.

UK Government and Fast Track are not usually seen in the same sentence. "Fast track up to 10 lorries/day", without considering how to implement that in practise seems like yet more spin by UK gov.

Up to 200 lorries a day turned back from EU crossings

I note this comment "These statistics however can be easily skewed because of Gibraltar's small size, as evidenced with other small territories at the top of the list, such as San Marino, the Faroe Islands and Andorra."
Israel and UAE would appear to be doing far better than other nations.

Re: Gibraltar 2
Can I ask a stupid question?
So these lorries are having problems going from the Uk to France and then driving down and going to GIB?
Why not run a ferry to Tangier (also not in the EU) and then to GIB. Bypassing any EU customs checks.

Re: Gibraltar 2
If there was a caring government and sufficient demand they could arrange a ferry direct to Gibraltar?

Re: Gibraltar 2
Interesting. I feel sure that Britany Ferries could re-route from Santander to Gibraltar and would be much quicker. Whatever happened to those phantom extra ferries Westminster hired at a huge cost.

Re: Gibraltar 2
It only deals with timber and dredged sand and gravel from off the Isle of Wight these days.
Could do Plymouth to Gib in 2 days if only for freight.

Re: Gibraltar 2
What the system now for walking over to La Linea and back ? and how about Spanish going in and out of Gib , be it for work or leisure ?
