Re: Gibraltar 2

Gibraltar should absolutely hold out for a better deal from a PP (Vox) government which includes rainbows and unicorns. I'm sure Abascal himself will roll the red carpet down the airport runway.

This time the FT has a say in the matter.

From the previous link,

Spain has never given up hope of retrieving Gibraltar and says that the Gibraltarian people should not have a say!
That's democracy Spanish style.

Re: Gibraltar 2

I have been in Gibraltar since 1976.
the first eight years with the frontier closed were the best,

I personaly expect it to be closed again.
If so the only thing I will miss is the ability to drive non stop through Spain in order to holiday in Portugal

Re: Gibraltar 2

There is an enormous irony about Spain posturing about Gibraltar which was legitimately part of the U.K. since 1713 and it’s enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla

There are about a dozen of these enclaves,
Perejil, not much bigger than a football pitch.
Gomera
Alhucemas
Chafarinas
to name a few.

I'm actually surprised you'd even consider sullying your tyres with Spanish tarmac, let alone do it.

Wait till you hear about this country with no less than 14 overseas territories and a bunch of islands right next to France.

But is this country trying to recover territory it gave away over three hundred years ago by applying pressure physically, politically, economically and undemocratically.

1713 Gibraltar was ceded to Britain. This treaty stated “the town, castle and fortifications were to be held and enjoyed for ever without any exception or impediment whatsoever.” This treaty was renewed again in 1763 by the Treaty of Paris, and in 1783 by the Treaty of Versailles.

Spain won’t gain anything by closing the borders. The Spanish people will be the biggest losers.

You 'd better tell the PP and Vox that.

It was done before, after the 1969 closure.
Goods by sea from various sources.
Labour from UK and Morocco
Great days please bring them back.

Masochism is obviously much more preferable to an agreement where Spain explicitly recognises Gibraltar.
