The European Commission has told a Gibraltar MEP that it has no powers to intervene in the ongoing standoffs at sea between local law enforcement agencies and the Guardia Civil.

So what are they for???????????

stop talking about Spain in such a derogatory manner, even the Spanish reckon they are only 30 years behind the rest of the world.

but then if their FCO is the same as the UK's then it is understandable that they are still in their days of glory. Even the words from Hague's mouth seem to be those of Palmerston.

so doesn't that knock on the head any moves by Spain to take over Gibraltar as it is a "border dispute" ? ?

Hypocrisy of the Spanish Empire!

In fact as recently as last month Spain’s ambassador to the United Nations was still saying that “Gibraltar is a colony and what must be done is establish a system of negotiations that will lead to the territorial unity of the country,”

Spain in fact, has many more anachronistic lands under their own colonial belt that they accuse others of being, three or four in fact just off (where else) morocco!

So does that not make the Wild Animal Killer an Emperor instead of a King ? ?

sorry, but it is all hypocritical claptrap, people who speak out of one orifice whilst spouting out of another
a little like BE Spain at times.

such a pity England had to lose so many men for them to be forgotten.

Interesting article, but written in 1911 ???

The majority population of Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish, and don't want to be governed by Morocco. So the situation is very similar to the majority population of Gibraltar who want to remain British. There is also a big trade in duty-free goods between Africa and the EU via these territories - another parallel with Gib.

I like this bit:-

Article IV. If Spain should desire to cede, sell or lease, partially or totally, her possessions in Morocco to any other power or to Morocco, she agrees not to do so without the express sanction of France."

Europe is a fascinating mix of ppls cultures and countries.
The only thing messing it up is the idiotic Eurocrats trying to convert it all into a European version of the USA.

it would have been much easier if Hitler had got on with Roosevelt the way Churchill did. He would have stopped the Japanese, no Pearl Harbour
and the only part of the UK now remaining would be..............
